Default Scam???

I just got an automated call from Community Bank so it says, saying my debit card has a problem. I don't bank with Community Bank, never have. Have any of you received such a call? I hung up, didn't hit 1 as the caller suggested to get things cleared up.

What the heck is this?

You should report that to Community Bank so they can look into it and get it stopped. I'm sure they'd like to know.

You hit 1 and your phone now becomes a free phone for international calls. That is, free for them but not for you. This is an old scam. Was used a lot by Jamaicans several years ago. Who knows who's doing it now. Glad you didn't hit the 1. I'd definitely call Community Bank and let them know this is happening.

Figured it was something like that and when I Googled the number, I got the impression from what showed up, that it is a cell phone number. Will find a number for Community Bank and let them know what I experienced.

Default National Do Not Call List

Add yourself to the National Do-Not-Call List, it's free. Takes affect in 30 days, good for 5 years. Call 1-888-382-1222 from your home or cell phone. You must call from the phone # you want on the NO CALL list. It takes about 10 seconds.

I just checked the web page for Community Bank and Trust of Florida and they tell of this particular scam, but from a different phone number. This link will go to the Bank's information regarding this current situation.... https://www.cbtfl.com/debit_card_phishing.cfm

Am on the list.....but for scammers, well, they don't care. In this instance, it was an automated call and there was no way to respond that wouldn't cause a problem.

The 5 year expiration ended in 2008 and it's now a permanent registration. (See link below) However, I doubt that being registered would affect scammers much; legitimate telemarketers can be dealt with much easier. You can also file complaints at the site shown below. Bottom line is that we have to be cautious on any calls like the one Pooh described.

There are so many e-mails scams out there. I'm always getting e-mails from scammers about banks where I don't have accounts, or asking me to update Pay Pal information, or telling me my video has gone viral on Youtube. I delele everything from IDs I don't recognize.

Yesterday my husband received an automated call from State Bank and was told to hit 1. He did not. He believed it was a scam.
