Default Real Estate Scams

Good morning, everyone.

I wanted to share this blog concerning real estate scams which are being perpetrated not just in Florida but the entire U.S. This is long but provides lots of alerts for sellers. Optimally, you will use a Realtor for your transaction but many people try to sell their house themselves (particularly owners who have bought and sold several properties) and need to be especially aware. Besides losing time and money you can also be a target for identity theft by these scammers.

I am in no way associated with Mike Payne, P.A. nor any other agent or brokerage mentioned in this blog and am not soliciting business for them.

BTW, I hope that all of my Atlanta TOTV peeps made it through the storms safely!

Carol...You are such a nice person to post this, but you are right this link is kind of hard to understand, for me anyway.

Sorry. I was just trying to make sure that every one is on their toes this morning! I removed the "cut and paste" direction and if you just click on the link it should come up. Thought that it was full of interesting info.

This reminds me of the Nigerian check cashing scams only on a bigger level. Like the article said, always deal with real money when buying or selling large items like homes or autos. If you do get a cashier check or bank check for say an auto you are selling, always wait for the check to clear. In fact, I have a rental that the renters have written me checks that have bounced in the past. Now I know I can go to their bank, show the teller the check and they can make sure there are funds in their account to cover the check. Of course, this only works if there bank has a branch near you.
