I question what the Do Not Call list really does. It doesn't seem to do any good at all.

I've reported various numbers but that gets old real fast because there are so many calls that come through.

Z....you're absolutely right. It works well, if you're getting the call from the same number. I have that situation on a few of the callers and they are now blocked. For those with rolling numbers, I just ignore the call and silence the phone to stop the ringing.

TIP: You can normally go to the internet and type the phone number into Google to find out who is calling you and that might give you a hint. I have DirecTV and get lots of calls from them, but they are now blocked. I was also getting a call from Oregon to sell me insurance; also now blocked.

If you have your phone through Comcast, dial *60 and turn on your call blocking feature. It allows you to enter up to 10 numbers (not enough...should be 50) to enter and those numbers will be blocked. If I get a call more than once from the same number, I remove the oldest number from the blocked list to make room and add the new one. It helps but the volume continues to be heavy because of elections coming this year.

I think tv is basically very safe and really do not worry about people calling to see if i am home at dinner time --- so they could break in. there is very little crime in tv

You are correct. Compared to the population in the Villages, there is not very much crime.

However, don't be such a doubting Thomas.
Calling a homeowner to see if anyone is home is done all the time.
Yes -- many break-ins DO occur in this manner;
the connection between the call ("sorry -- wrong number" or a hang-up)
and the break-in are often not even noticed.
