Post Theatre Shooter Back In Court Today

Retired police officer Curtis Reeves, the man who shot and killed the young father in the movie theatre because he was texting his babysitter, was back in court today. According to TV reports, Reeves gave up his right to a speedy trial, therefore his trial will take place next fall.

Until then, Reeves will remain locked up in the Pasco County jail, held without bond. This timeframe gives his defense attorneys time to prepare for his defense. IMO, this will be a tough case for the defense, since the whole episode was caught on the theatre's videotape.

The only defense I can see is temporary insanity, or maybe PTSD from his previous job.

I got to see some of the workings of the defense while a student with Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners. Sometimes the defense can not do much else except go through the motions. It will be interesting to see what they come up with if anything. Maybe a parade of witnesses from his employment as a police officer to get some compassion from the jury. http://tbtpics.tampabay.com/news/cou...g-case/2169793
