Default Teacher out of state and Charter School FL

I have a friend in VA who wants to move to TV in 2013. She teaches advanced Math and advanced Spanish. Lori would very much appreciate input from anyone currently teaching in our area, especially The Charter School. Thank you for any input offered. Sandra

Has she found their website? --> The Villages Charter SchoolsLots of information there, including news about the expansion in the Hot Topics section.

There was a Daily Sun article recently which said that high school students were able to earn college credits prior to high school graduation. Maybe her "advanced" experience would be lustful in this area.

Good luck!

She will be in for a shock when she sees the difference in pay scales! Florida is not known for paying their educators too well. She shouldn't have any trouble finding a position considering her credentials. Here in Marion County, we have several IB programs that would be an excellent fit. We don't offer tenure anymore in the State, all districts work on annual contracts for new teachers. The Charter School is also an annual contract, even less if it doesn't work out! She would not be elgible for the Florida Retirement System as an employee of The Villages, they have a 401K program instead. Florida is also in the process of developing a performance pay system that will be taking effect soon. A teacher is rated based on test scores and observations and a value will then be placed on their performance. Should be interesting!
