Collie, I think that the prices folks are quoting you were probably for getting a myriad of things done.

When you come from out of state, your first trip to the DMV is indeed very expensive. I think I paid between $500 and $600. That included re-titling (one) vehicle in Florida, one-year tags and registration for (one) vehicle, and two Florida driver’s licenses (good for 9 years).

After that, vehicle registration renewals will be back in line with what you are used to. I haven't done it yet and I can’t remember for sure, but I *think* they told me the next (one year) renewal would be around $79 for my vehicle. Florida doesn’t have annual personal property taxes on vehicles, so if you come from a place that has those (like I did), the one-time expense is much more palatable.

YW! BTW, although I worked for the DMV in Albany, I've been to the Syracuse office on Erie Blvd. a few times for meetings. They seemed to have a nice office there. I also marched with the Syracuse Brigadiers Sr. Drum & Bugle Corps back in 1973... if you've heard of them. I have some fond memories those days when I used to travel from Clifton Park to Syracuse to participate.

Skyguy, I'm not originally from Syracuse, and came from a small town east of Utica, but I do remember the Brigadiers. Regarding DMV, I've never used the Erie Blvd office, but I do use the Taft Road office regularly, and have found it to the best organized DMV office I've ever seen. Especially when compared to the Utica office, which still has remnants of the traditional "I don't care about your problem" staff. And by the way, I worked in your old neighborhood at one time - GE in Schenectady.
