Unhappy Warning on travel ban to NY

If you plan to travel to NY from Fl, forget it. We were going up for a graduation and planned to stay 5 days. I found out they are strictly enforcing the 14 day quarantine rule.
A friend of mine traveled last week to a funeral, stayed 5 days, flew back to Fl and received a letter fining her $2000 for failing to follow the rules. She was turned in by TSA at airport. I called the hotel to cancel, and was told they are being told to check on guests from out of state to see if they are self quarantining. No Joke.

How do they keep track if someone drives there, rather than flying, then stay with family?

Over a bridge or through a tunnel, if you have Florida plates they can, will stop you. How they will enforce the 14 day quarantine is another guess.

Your friend should check........one attorney said it can not be enforced.

But you know what attorneys are like.

Florida did that to NY travelers early on when things were getting bad up there so with the uptick in the virus here understand why they are doing it.

Not doubting.
But.
How did TSA know your friend went to a funeral?

TSA is part of a Federal agency. It seems very strange that TSA would have any involvement with enforcing a state requirement. New York has enforcement teams at the airports to enforce the travel ban, and the state is getting cooperation from the airlines. But, I haven't seen anything regarding the Federal Government being involved in the travel ban.

And the state could use the extra cash.

In the United States you have the right to confront your accusers and you are innocent until proven guilty.

Without accusers, read as a person, the fine is not enforceable. Further someone leaving NY before the 14 days did not necessarily violate a quarantine order, you could simply be tired of it and leave early. Again provide evidence of 24/7 surveillance to prove otherwise.

Of course MLB players are exempt from 14 day Quarantine. So basically playing baseball is more essential than a funeral.

We flew to NY from Florida 3 weeks ago. We did self quarantine for 2 weeks but went out for scheduled grocery pick ups. In our case no one from the government checked on us or stopped us or fined us.
