Spent 10 or so winters there. But only a part of the one of 1969 as we were travelling to Apache Junction, AZ for two weeks or so in the sun. And then through Las Vegas and eventually to Reno, Nevada in January of 1970.

the reason we moved from Wisconsin to Florida is the winter weather and cost of living. No brainer for us.

I spent 40 years in western NY. The winters in Wisconsin are probably colder and longer than in western NY, but I like to say we have beautiful Springs in New York. We just have to wait until late June to get them.

Minnesota is a bit colder than Wisconsin in the winter, but Wisconsin gets a LOT more snow, with Lake Superior to the north and Michigan to the east. I have a brother in Campbellsport, WI who routinely gets hit hard with snow. He has a rather long driveway (200 yards, maybe) and had to buy a small tractor to keep it plowed.

We lived in Minocqua Wisconsin which is the Chicago playground and has been for many years.

The winters are beautiful, the snow is so white and glistens on the trees when you walk outside and you can hear a pin drop it's so quiet after a major snowfall.

We decided to sell our home up there and move full-time to The Villages 2 years ago.
Well...exactly one summer down here and we went right back up to Wisconsin and bought another summer place to snowbird to.

The heat and humidity here in summer is beyond horrendous, the grounds and flowers shrivel up and die, and your skin feels like your searing in a fry pan the very minute you walk outside !
I will take a Wisconsin winter any day over a Florida summer if I had to.

We are retired, don't care if the snow plies up outside. Everybody and thier mother has plows and shovels and we never stayed snowed in for more than 3 hours after a really hard snowfall.
And we always owned snowmobiles in case of an emergency if we had to get out.

To the best of my recollection I have undoubtedly flown over but have never set foot in the state of Wisconsin. I know some nice people from Wisconsin and am sure parts of the state are quite beautiful at various times of the year but I would not want to spend any time there during the colder months as I prefer to spend as much of my time as possible in warm sunny places. Attending the Oshkosh fly-in would be fun!

I lived in the N.Y. I once did a job in Internation Falls Minnesota in February on a frozen lake.
Given the choice I would rather live in a warmer climate than a cold.
If I ever do get the desire to revisit my past I climb into my refrigerator, I'm sure that will bring me back to reality.

I have not found that to be true in The Villages, in my summers here the grounds & flowers did not shrivel up & die, and my skin did not feel like it was being seared in a frying pan the minute I walked outside. But I am happy you enjoy living in Wisconsin.

Like I tell my children up North, "the only snow I want to see is on a Christmas card." I'll move back North, ONLY when global warming makes it as nice as Florida, at least ten months a year.

True. lol. I will take two months of heat when I can still go outside and get my mail in the morning and have beautiful evenings or go swimming versus sitting in a house for six months. Minnesota summers have some “hot” ones too. Plants have zones for a reason.

I recall those mosquitoes near the Mississippi River. They were having a picnic on me while I was trying to eat some lunch.

Have you ever stepped outside of your lanai in the summer here? There are millions of mosquitoes and midges!!!
When I first got here I rented in Chitty Chatty one of those new places that did not have a lanai. Every night when the sun went down I got chased in the house
