I have to do something in Orlando next week in the evening, so I figured I'd go for the day. I don't have any specific things I want to see, but I'm on a budget so not interested in 5-star restaurants, or anywhere that requires more than a couple bucks to get in (maybe an art or science museum or two).
Things I would be interested in: Ecclectic boutiques featuring clothes, tchatchkes. Anywhere that sells pizza by the slice. Antique stores Vintage clothing stores Basically - anything you'd find while walking down Fashion Avenue in Manhattan at Times Square, on your way to Greenwich Village. Or something like Park St. Boston plus the North End. Or downtown New Haven plus Westville Village. Or Mt. Dora's shopping district. If there's a district/area like this in Orlando, can you name it? Then I can do a mini-tour on google maps and see if it's something I'd enjoy spending a few hours in. If it doesn't have a name but you know the name of a shop or museum within it, name that and I'll do the same thing that way. Thanks! |

Just a day-trip to Orlando, so that I'm already there, and already near the airport after the insanity of Orlando Rush hour is over. |

Okay it’s is not 5th avenue in Manhattan, There is an area in Orlando called Icon Park which has some shops, restaurants, a wax museum, museum of illusions. Other museums (art, science ) are farther away. May be too low brow for what you are looking to see.

Have you been to Winter Park or Winter Garden? Similar to Mt Dora.
Several museums near Winter Park Google will help find. https://polasek.org/ Rollins Museum of Art |

Lowbrow is fine. Crime-ridden not so much. I can't afford to BUY much of anything. So window shopping, going into cool stores to look at the cool stuff, that's what I always used to do when I went into Manhattan, a day walking from behind the Met, to Greenwich Village, stopping for a slice of pizza on the way, and taking the cross-town bus back to the car. But Icon Park isn't on the way to the airport, so I might visit that some day but not next week.

I will second Winter Park. Suggest you park and walk, because the cobblestone streets are fairly narrow and there are usually a lot of pedestrians wandering around.
If you're feeling really adventurous, park at one of SunRail's numerous nearby stops with lots of available parking and then take the train to/from WP. |

May not be your thing, we always head for White Castle for some sliders when we go to MCO for whatever reason. We also now have a white castle in Clermont that we have this but not the same experience as Orlando

I always stop at the Goodwill BOUTIQUE store on Orange Ave. . Great little place with name brands. Parking on the side of the building. On your way to Winter Park which is a nice browsing area.

be careful in Orlando. It's not Disney World. Stay away from highest crime areas like Mercy Drive, Malibu Groves
Roosevelt Park, Johnson Village, Lake Sunset, Carver Shores, Rock Lake, Washington Shores, Lake Mann Gardens. Orlando on the Cheap has good recommendations. Wear comfortable walking shoes and keep your purse close to you or hidden like a belt band. Be careful who you talk to and where you park. Park Ave/Winter Park is good but IMHO International Drive has more to do and I think the hop on buses are still running. |
