Someone told me yesterday.... "your wills from Pa. are useless in Fl. and if you and your wife die, the state gets half! Is that true?

Because rules vary from state to state it would be a good idea to check with a lawyer in Florida to see if your wills are valid in Florida. Same for any power of attorney and living wills.

We are from NJ and had to have our wills and POA redone. On my check this past month they had to redo our living wills also.

We went with a Living Trust before we ever came here and had it redone when we got here because the state laws are so different. One reason for a trust is because of the really, really high cost of probate with wills. As has been suggested, please consult a lawyer to know exactly where you stand.

On another note, don't know if you know it or not, but Florida is not a community property state. Ours was. Just some things to think about.

We are from PA and the lawyer said our wills and trusts were OK but we needed a new POA and living wills. I forget why. State laws are funny so I agree with the others to consult an attorney.

I would strongly suggest that anyone moving to Florida from another state go see a Florida lawyer concerning their wills, trusts, POA, living wills, and all that stuff. For old documents from some states there is no problem, for others there are major problems. One more suggestion, don't go to just any lawyer. Find one who is Florida certified as a specialist in Elder Affairs or Elder Law - they know best on issues dealing with seniors.
