crises and those of the past that have gone to the brink?
The media pervasiveness of this one. The current administration and the media want we the people to be firghtened! Afraid! Uninformed and mis-informed. How many of you have ever worked for any organization that would make or not make decisions that could harm the health of the company? We all know this is partisan politics at it's very worst/best. We the people are being had/duped/suckered.....AGAIN. Doesn't this look, feel, smell like the big push for Obamacare? The same cronies at it AGAIN....both R & D. The same cronies that will all be standing shoulder to shoulder, smiling in the 11th hour....boasting what they just did to save America ![]() ![]() Take note the immense momentum of the business as usual crowd had/has. They got the tea party to cave. The dems got their conservatives to cave. What is priority #1? Get the debt ceiling raised by an amount sufficient to keep this pot from boiling again during the 2012 election cycle. PERIOD....end of subject. Another major push by those with the ultimate power/vote/position....this time the dems. The end result will be the same as gasoline coming down from $4 headed to $5 per gallon....nothing changed. Nothing fixed. No follow up...no closure....no plan....no responsibility...no accountability....and for we the people....NO PROBLEM....but just like the never solved issue of why gasoline prices escalate...the debt ceiling issues are not being addressed. Next week it will be back to business as usual....with another big impact....America sliding deeper into the abyss of spending. America sliding even faster to becoming an ex major power/influence in the world. The one thing that will survive and be no change what so ever...we the people will slide back to their ....don't worry....be happy mode.....UNTIL THE NEXT TIME. Our enemies could not pull off a better plan to destroy America. btk |

How can you ignore the existence of Democratic budget cutting plans amounting to up four times more than those of the Boehner bill and other Republican plans?
Admit it. The crux here is simply about revenue. You are hiding behind the tea party holdouts who demand absolutely no tax increases. You think there might be a connection between the lowest tax rates in modern times and high debt? Just answer this one question: How can you defend refusing to ask the wealthiest Americans to pay taxes at the levels they did forty years ago, and corporations to pay a little more on windfall profits? Four trillion or so in cuts is one hell of a good start. Please answer soon with your better idea. |

Villagegolfer: The biggest albatrosses that we have around our financial necks are SOcial Security, Medicare/Medicaid and the military.
Social Security is paid for through a regressive tax. The first 6.5 cents of every dollar you make goes to FICA and is matched by your employer. Somehow the liberals haven't gained much traction in screaming about THAT regressive tax, though the FAR left sometimes tries. The military is paid for through 'regular' taxes. Everything from income taxes to import duties and off shore oil leases. This leaves Medicare/Medicaid. Sure, there's a line on your paycheck saying how much is taken out for that, but that's a fairly recent development. I've said this before - there may be only one way to to solve the Medicare/Medicaid elephant and that's how other countries do it. A National Sales Tax. They have VATs in other countries. Our health care system is broken for more reasons than I can count. Everything from legal problems to the simple fact of capitalism that says companies are beholden to their SHAREHOLDERS. ...and forcing Americans to buy something for simply "existing" just doesn't seem right to me. Now, I'm no fan of socialized medicine - not by a long shot. But when you see that the United States has the equivalent aaverage life span as CUBA. When you see that we aren't even in the top THREE DOZEN industrialized nations for the quality and effectiveness of our health care system. When countries like the UK and their well-publicized difficulties beat the pants off of us. When you find out that "medical tourism" didn't exist a few years ago and is an established industry now - and what's worse is that ten times as many people go overseas for treatment as compared to coming here from other countries (we have 300M potential customers to leave while the rest of the world has over 6 billion potential customers to come here - making those numbers even more stark)... When, most of all, you discover that we pay, per capita MORE THAN TWICE AS MUCH MONEY AS ANY OTHER COUNTRY ON THE PLANET for this sub-standard service... Well, then you have to start wondering what the real story is. To me, the only Constitutional way to fund this is through a Sales Tax. Now, for one, that'll get EVERYone paying. For two, it's more cost efficient to collect - harder to "go underground". Of course we would have the usual problem of the existing health insurance companies screaming bloody murder about being put out of business. But let me ask you the following... I'm sure nobody has a problem with doctors and nurses making a fair wage. Likewise the other people who actually *deliver the goods*. It's just that, when you get to 'sick people', I'm not sure they should be treated the same way that a used car salesman treats HIS customers - as marks to extract every possible dollar. |

ijusluvit, I was merely stating a dislike for a process that is less then efficient, party politics at it's worst....both sides.
I had no intent on dropping down to try to determine who got what better than the other....obviously a must have for some folks. Without always trying to paint a subject with an R or a D, how about an opinion about the process? Which is the point of the thread. Not many of us need an R or a D to conduct our businesses, our personal or home finances...because we do what has to be done within our means and ability to pay with responsibility and accountability. Politicians have no concern for whether they have the means or the ability to pay. They certainly have no responsibility. And they are accountable for nothing and to NOBODY. Whether R or D it just seems to some of us who they are and what they do and don't do is just not acceptable....did I say whether R or D?? ![]() btk |
