How is much different from this-Uncle Sam takes my money to invest for my retirement, because it's soooo nice of the government to look out for little ole me who doesn't have sense to look out for myself. OH, that's right, that's not working out so well either...
I put in 20 yrs with a "private sector" company chasing the pension. But wait, we are downsizing and you won't get your pensions. Geez, who was looking out for me then? Nobody. Now in the other sector chasing another pension. Could lose that too?

Gosh after reading this thread and all I can say is many of you seem a bit frisky. It would seem more productive to direct that energy, intellect and aggression toward the real source of the problem,,,,President and Congress

As the original poster on this thread it has occurred to me that this thread has developed just like social security has and as most government programs have.
It started out as one thing and in just a few days it is a totally different thing all together.
It has been amusing!
I plan on collecting ss if it is there in about 5 years and I will not consider myself a socialist. I however will feel like I have been ripped off because I could have invested that money much better.
Now what was this thread about?? I forgot!

Hey, with us oldtimers all conversation eventually leads to Social Security, Medicare, doctors, medication, and some more things I'm having trouble remembering. It's inevitable.

My business!! I would have invested it in my business and made much more than the government ever did. as if they made anything for me with it.
Also my bonds aren't doing that bad!
I would have invested in real estate more. I don't know how it is where you live but it was a good deal here and never really did get bad like what we here in the media.
Or I guess I could give it all to a congressman and hope he takes care of it over the years!! I wonder how that would work out, Oh I guess I will find out soon.

Well, my real estate went to hell in a hand basket. My Grand Father, long gone, told me way back when to forget real estate. I didn't listen.

I don't think real estate is over. There will always be a need for housing and businesses expand. If they don't then all of this does not matter anyway. I don't plan for it all to go to hell, I plan on it getting better and it will.
I hope the biggest leap forward will be in 2012 with a new leader or should I say A LEADER.

Hoping along with you.
In the meantime, land is one thing that isn't being made any more, so it will always bounce back.

Whelp, that's what I'm banking on. If there are any old yuppies out there that want to and can afford to move to the country, were are waiting for them.
