Courtesy of the US Navy, I spent time on Adak Island in the Bering Sea....spent time in Kodiak and Anchorage. Saw mountains that were breathtaking...wildlife I have never seen since...salmon spawning, Caribou herds on the island. An active volcano right off the island...we had earthquakes each and every week of differing magnitude.

It is an amazing place....the scenery can take your breath away !

You have to wonder why a Presidential Hopeful would do a reality series. Yet Sarah Palin seems to break boundaries and become even more popular. IMHO.

We have been on a 7 day cruise to Alaska and it was the most beautiful place we have ever been. We loved it so much we have planned another cruise there this next year plus we added 7 days on land before the cruise to drive around Alaska to see it up close and on our own schedule. We will go there many times, God willing.
We will be DVRing the 8 shows because it's Alaska and Sarah!

You need to go because you will never forget it.

We lived in Anchorage when I was young but I can still remember the beauty, the wild moose crossing the highway, beavers slapping their tails in ditches along the roadside, snow mounds up to 3rd story windows (base housing), having my own private skating rink in the back yard, the amazing northern lights, and...the earthquakes.

My cousin was stationed in Alaska while serving in the Air Force and she chose to live there permanently. She resides in North Pole, Alaska!! She told me that her son's hockey games are postponed once it reaches 40 below.

Spectacular ! I moved there in June 1964, after the 27 March earthquake thanks to the Air Force. My youngest daughter was born there. Add this to your bucket list, but I would do the interior, fly in, rent a car and spend two weeks, not a cruise if you want to see the real Alaska. The cruises are nice, but severly limits what you can see of Alaska, in my opinion.

Went fishing there for a week. Beautiful country. Flew to a different site each day. Caught 600 lbs of salmon as a group of 10. I wish I could do it again. We were within 20 feet of bears feeding on salmon in the river one day. Walked on a glasier, and generally had a great time.

I agree, kb although we did an Alaskan cruise about 10 years ago and loved the breathtaking views.

We also did the cruise-tour, one week cruise - one week on land. It is such a beautiful place...and the people were so nice. Would love to go back again some day.

He is from Minnesota though. They had a professional wrestler as a Governor.

Not going to watch Sarah Palin's show. I find her accent hard to take.

I watched a portion of it last night. After about 20 minutes I had enough, but it was interesting. It was fun to watch. Although it's a little "put up" the HD video did enhance the experience.

It was more about Alaska than about Palin, although it appears that she and her family are very nice people. Her husband seems to be a wonderful guy.

I think, that while she's not presidential material, she's a sincere woman with strong, earthy values and a nice family. Somehow, I put her in the category of a "lottery" winner. This unexpected fame was visited on her and she's using it to the fullest. She makes a good, attractive television host.

If this were Madeline Albright or Janet Reno, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
