So all the small states in the USA should just sit back and be dragged along with the likes of CA/NY??

There is a reason for the electoral college. Discuss an alternative that solves the problem....not just default back to the system that excludes too many voters desires.

Electoral College works to some extent but is now mostly just an expression of the wills of each party as they seem to have a great deal of say in who becomes Electors.

That's why Trump was assured election despite what the popular vote was. It is just more party politics and politics as usual. And from his appointments Donald Trump is showing that he is just part of the same old same old group of people mainly looking out for themselves and their friends and families and keeping things just like they have been. No swamp draining here that I see. Bigger government with Donald Trump and more entrenchment of the rich and powerful.

Why? It let "you" win.

Each state gets one vote. With 26 you win. With 25 each, the popular vote total wins. CA shouldn't overrule 15 states because it happens to be big and coastal...why should Wyoming be 1/15th of California? Are blacks 3/5th a person?

The parties choose the electors. Answers are easy to get if you try...

"They may be state elected officials, state party leaders, or people in the state who have a personal or political affiliation with their party's Presidential candidate. ... When the voters in each state cast votes for the Presidential candidate of their choice they are voting to select their state's Electors."

U. S. Electoral College: Who Are the Electors? How Do They Vote?

There will be NO draining of the swamp...the swamp just got swampier.

The Electoral college was devised in essence to ensure and reflect the fair and complete will of the people. It worked. While Hillary clinton did get the popular vote Donald Trump got all but 50+ counties out of 300+ counties nationally. Trump received 306 electoral votes 36 more than he needed ( 300 + counties 300+ electors).

The questioning of the electoral college came only after Hillary Clinton lost. She was so confident that she would win the Electoral College that she didn't campaign in Wisconsin and hence lost in Wisconsin

The shock of Hillary's loss sent progressive into a tailspin

Podesta utilizing Pelosi's daughter and nine others electors lobbied the Electoral College under the pretense of Hamilton Electors demanding electors change their vote because Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. When that didn't work they played the Russian card, Progressives intimated ,made death threats against these electors and otherwise made their lives a living hell. Hamilton designed the Electoral College to protect the country from such political intimidation

Progressives attempted a voter recount that failed. They attempted to challenge the Electoral College that failed. All of this upheaval by progressives is really for one reason only and that is to undermine Donald Trump's democratic legitimacy.

As a sidebar imagine what it would be like if we did not have the Electoral College. As we learned from this election the coastal cities would dominate and middle America totally ignored

Imagine what it would be like if under just a popular vote the election was contested. Can you spell hanging chads times 50.

I am more convinced than ever that the founders were absolutely correct in devising the Electoral College

Personal Best Regards:

Why do you keep lying about this, even after I PROVED in another post that you are nothing but a clueless, plagiarizing, broad-brush painting liar?

You are also continuing to prove what I've said about you for a while now, that you need to plagiarize without providing citations, that you've never had an original thought...and that you depend on bogus sites peddling false news.

Do you have any clue how something as simple as being off by a factor of 10, on the number of counties in this country...makes you look so ignorant?

Just so I don't have to do so much work every time you lie about this, which won't be long I'm sure...I'll bookmark this post for next time.

Trump Won 3,084 of 3,141 Counties, Clinton Won 57 : snopes.com

Quote:
Even if you count only 17 states (Breitbart's ten and an additional seven), Clinton won 164 counties in those 17.

Even without accounting for the other 33 states, the claim that Trump won all but 57 of America's 3,141 counties appeared to be completely untrue.

Trump won approximately 85% of the counties in America, with Hillary only winning about 15% of the counties, even though she had the popular vote.

I am all in for eliminating the electoral vote, IF/IF we also get rid of California. With California and the election dictated by the popular vote, no Republican would ever again be elected. So, lets get rid of California.

Trump is assured the election despite the popular vote because we do not consider the popular vote when electing a president.

What you're saying is like going to to play a golf match at match play and when you lose claiming that you should get the prize because you shot a lower score.

Sorry, but the popular vote is not how we keep score in presidential elections.

Of course the partied have a lot to say about who the electors are. The electors are party operatives. The same with candidates. The parties get to choose who they want to be their candidates and they get to do it however they wish.

How did the Green Party select Jill Stein to be their candidate? How did Gary Johnson become the candidate of the Libertarian Party?

Who else would select the electors?
