One atomic bomb exploded at a high altitude could destroy all our electronics; knocking planes out of the air and stopping everything in its tracks. There's evidence that Iran, with consultation with North Korea, has experimented with this; thinking this is the way to bring about the end of the U.S. and herald the coming of the "last Islamic messiah" who will kill the rest of the infidels and Islam will rule the world.
Our government knows about this; is playing politics with the info instead of doing anything about it, and it's all at our peril. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=Bu8GTn01n18 |

The pizza guy's chance of winning the nomination are < 7%. Mittens has this thing locked up - and has for some time now.
In a few months, when Herb is gone, he'll write a book. And the same teabagging half-witted morons who bought The Wasilla Quitta's book, will buy Herb's. PT Barnum was right. |

If you have no fear of nuclear attacks from terrorists states, that's your right. Your mocking of people who want to discuss is as ignorant a post as I've ever read on this forum. A little maturity is in order, please. |

Imagine we have posters here who complain that Congress can't accomplish anything because of their immature ways. Yet not one post addressed theatomic bomb issue pro or con in an intelligent manner
Some posters just have to give up their Kardashian ways |

I am not sure but I would assume the detonation of one device would have a destructive impact on a given sized area. And where ever it is would be in complete and utter shut down/disaster. The terrorists would have to deploy several to end life here in the USA as we know it. Perhaps someday they could have a capability comparable to that of the USA, the old USSR, China.
I also subscribe to the theory that when terrorists take aim at the USA they are in fact taking aim at the rest of the world. I really believe half their battle is won simply by instilling fear in all of us. I think it really may be more of a Buck Rogers concept at this stage in man's self destructive evolution...we hope any way. As for the name callers they have earned the status of "consider the source", hence zero effect....only their self satisfaction which has been demonstrated to be rather a low threshold to accomplish! btk |

The scenario that was expected to start a nuclear attack on the United States during the Cold War expected the first bomb to be a 50 Mt device exploded over the Gulf of Mexico for the purpose of wiping out our electronics.
I think that fear of an EMP attack on the United States is legitimate. It is important to be able to function without electronics for a lengthy period of time. |

"It is important to be able to function without electronics for a lengthy period of time."
The older generations will have a very good base allowing survival for a prolonged period. The younger/youngest generation would come to a complete standstill and expect solution in 60 minutes or less (length of television shows!!). Have you ever been in a check out line during a power failure?? Most running the registers do not know how to make change. The bigger shock that would come all too soon in the event of an EMP is how totally dependent we are on electronic systems.....remember this means no lights, no heat or air conditioning, no phones of any kind, no television, no car or golf cart, no re-supply of groceries or medicines....to get calibrated to the impact think of being in a wagon or cabin during the frontier days of America. And don't think of it in terms of how long until the power comes back on....think about it as if it will not be back on for a year or more. What is your current food supply capable of supporting? A week? A month? One day? A couple of hours? And remember your only mode of transportation are your two feet or your bicycle. Not only do not enough people realize the enormity of the impact on life of an EMP....there are not enough people even aware of what it is!! btk btk |

Do some research on the range of EMPs. It's not as disastrous as you think.

If the Iranians or North Koreans ever got THAT crazy to try and launch a bomb on a missile, their countries would be turned to glass. They know this - and it's why Iran has been very careful to walk a fine line to placate the religious loonied while keeping them from being bombed back to the stone age. |
