Default It does not appear that

budget cuts will go easy.

This from Tim Geithner at a hearing today

""If this were the last debt ceiling increase you could ask for, the final one, and you had to make it large enough for all current and future obligations, what would the request need to be?" Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) asked Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner at a Capitol Hill hearing on Wednesday.

"I don’t know how to answer that question," Geithner said to Gowdy.

After being prodded by the Congressman, Geithner eventually told him, "it would be a lot."

“It would be a lot,” Geithner finally said. “It would make you uncomfortable,"
he added.

And this from the WH.....

"White House Press Secretary Jay Carney didn't pull any punches in his attack on Paul Ryan's budget, as he declared that supporters of the budget -- and by extension, Ryan himself -- are "aggressively and deliberately ignorant" about the need for green energy and other programs slated for cuts."

WH: Ryan 'aggressively and deliberately ignorant' | Campaign 2012 | Washington Examiner

These two statements do not seem likely a precursor for coming to any kind of agreement nor does it bode well for much in the way of budget cuts.

There will always be differences in views, and especially in the first few days, but the TYPE OF LANGUAGE used is a bit disconcerting.

Just an addendum to the thread start, I just read on another site that even with all the serious cutting that the House budget asked for, it would still take THIRTY YEARS to balance the budget !! THIRTY YEARS !!

but just like energy independence will take many many years....progress begins with STARTING to do SOMETHING that will result in improvement.

Energy independence has been tossed about and billions/trillions spent to wind up worse off than 40 years ago.

Politicians = no accountability, hence no action, hence no progress.

All condoned by we the people.

Hopefully the start won't be any later than November 2012. We have to make Congressional changes too.

Any budget cuts with a Democrat Senate is a non-starter. Paul Ryan's plan will never hit the floor and he knows it. I guess it's good to highlight the differences, except that it'll be reported by the MSM who are over 90% Democrat voters. They just lead you to believe that a rise in new homes which "can be built" is a sign of a rising economy.

An example of their reporting is a story that's out today with the headline that goes something like "New Home Permits at a 3 Year High!!". They don't tell you that the actual ground breaking for new homes is down 9% until you're into the story.

Now why isn't that the headline, that housing starts are down. It's because a Democrat is in the White House and they want to put the best possible spin on the story. If there was a Republican President in office, the housing starts would be the headline.

Thirty years?

Sounds to me like the span of time between the Baby Boomers retiring (already started) and them *dying*.
