I have a brand new Club Cart Onward. Being on the short side, I have to pull the seat forward but then the steering wheel is too close for comfort. I can't easily reach around it for the ignition switch or light switch. Club Cart store will not shorten steering column for me which is what is needed. I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and if you know of someone who would shorten the column for me. Thanks for any info.

A number of my shorter friends have a block-like device attached to the accelerator pedal to make it reachable without having to shorten the steering column. I don’t know where they got them; I suggest talking to your dealer about these.

Hmm…steering column seems a bit extreme. The do make plastic “blocks” that fit over the gas pedal which allows those of a shorter statue to reach it better. Wondering if you had this and did not need to move the seat forward.

Having done this on a car, this is not a trivial task. I would not attempt on a golf cart, unless you can find a kit. I would suggest possibly a different seat, so you would sit a little lower (if these are available), the blocks as suggested above to raise the pedals. It should be possible to relocate the ignition and light switches. The other possibility you might be able to find a smaller or custom steering wheel that will give you more room.

This sounds to me like a serious issue of driver comfort and safety. I expect you did do a test drive before you bought the vehicle. What did the dealer say when you mentioned these concerns?

It can be shortened. Not a trivial job though.
Pull out the steering shaft. EITHER Cut out a portion. Weld it back together. OR Cut off the end and mill the metal to match the original. Cut and finish the sleeve that contains the steering shaft. Watch out for any wiring attached for lighting or turn signals. Beware, as steering wheel moves forward it also moves downward. It could now hit your legs. |

Said shortening the column was not feasible. He had no suggestions.

I think I saw tilt steering columns for golf carts ($$$$) that might be an option, you will need to do a search or start contacting the online golf cart accessories suppliers. As I stated before I did this on a car, but it was a kit, as noted above modifying the original steering shaft and column is not trivial.

You don’t need to do any of this. They sell a snap on pedal extender at any golf cart dealer. We have 1. It takes 5 seconds to take on and off.

I haven’t used one of the blocks so I can’t attest to the value but there is a vendor at the vendor market that sells them with other golf cart accessories. They should be in Brownwood tonight.

That seems to be a problem with all golf carts , extended pedals are the answer.
