Default Lithium Battery Builds for Techies

I am not recommending any products...Nor do I recommend even attempting a battery build without a background in STEM. These are just instructional videos for those wanting to build a lithium pack for their golf carts. This is highly technical. Battery fires are extremely dangerous and hot if you make a mistake...Even with LFP cells. My advice: Never charge more than 0.1C and 3.5V

You might want to change the heading to lithium and sodium battery builds.
Sodium-ion Golf Cart Battery Packs are now available and much safer than lithium.

Interesting technology.

You might want to start your own thread and provide information on your solutions.

It would be interesting to see what happens if one of these 'upgrades' fails and causes a fire, IMHO as soon as the insurance company found out about the DIY upgrade they would deny coverage.

I have a small Nissan Leaf battery pack that I put together, with an electronic cell balancer and a charger with an automatic shut off when finished charging. It works fine, except it takes off like a bat out of ***** before peaking at about 20mph when the cart controller works like a governor and won't allow it to go any faster. It does not heat up when I charge it. I use my cell phone to make adjustments to the BMS to control how each cell balances the charge before it will cut off any additional charging. It was an experiment because I got tired of adding water to lead acid batteries every week, and the stains on my driveway from the acid.
You can purchase a simple drop in replacement lithium battery for about the same price as six 8 volt lead acid batteries. Mine was just a simple gathering of Leaf cells that I purchased on Ebay. Not even enough to go much more than ten miles on a charge. By the way, lithium batteries hold a charge when sitting, whereas lead acid lose charge as they sit. If you have a lead acid battery system and need to go away for a substantial period, you need to connect a battery maintainer. Lithium doesn't require a maintainer.
Just things I have learned by messing around with my experiment AND reading. My system is not the ideal setup, because there are more things you can add to make it more efficient. But, that means that I would have to mess around with some electronics that I have very little experience with. Ideally, I would purchase one of those drop in replacement lithium battery packs that have all the electronics built in.

Almost every lithium battery you purchase, such as for your drill, lawn mower, etc. has electronics built in. Open one up and you will see at the very least a circuit board with electronics on it.
You get maybe five years with a lead acid battery, IF-IF you do great maintenance on it. Some lithium batteries will last ten years or so.

Nice! Thanks.

Can you discharge them down to 0% without injuring them/forming dendrites?

One of the best features of sodium-ion is no HazMat shipping or storage problems with SOC at 0%. I think it is definitely the future of golf cart batteries.

Yes...210ah is minimum for The Villages

I disagree that 210ah is the minimum. I live as far north as you can in The Villages (just of 42). I have a 205ah battery. I can drive to Southern Oaks, play 18, return and still have 42%. So while I would agree that you need 200ah+ if you live at either extreme edge, if you are closer to the center then a 160ah would be fine.

Right now Moultrie Creek to Mulberry Grove/Lopez and back is easily doable but not when TV expands down to Havana in the next few years
