When we move to TV it will be with our beloved Callie - that's her puppy picture to the left!
Callie developed diabetes about a year and a half ago and needs insulin injections twice a day and we carefully monitor her diet. Does anyone else have a diabetic dog/know of a vet with experience treating diabetes? As always, thanks so much for your help!

I am not down in the villages yet (hope to buy later this year), but we also had a Brittany which was a diabetic. We started with one vet, but ended up using a different one who was much better at treating him.
My dog lived many years after we found out and he never seemed to care when we gave him his shots. It was expensive and required a lot of visits to the clinic so I hope you find a vet that will be a good fit for you. Our dog was wonderful and we miss him now. He lived to be over 14 years old and was a happy boy in spite of his condition. What a trooper! Good luck to you in your search. Callie looks like a real cutie! |

He recently operated on my 18 year old cat, who had malignant cancer. He got it all, and the cat is back to acting like a kitten. He gained my trust by explaining the operation calmly and telling me he wouldn't do any other surgery on the day of the operation, so he could give my cat his full attention. She was only under the anesthetic for about ten minutes. And his prices are very reasonable compared to Village vets. (Oh, and by the way, another very expensive Village vet treated the cancer by sending me home with a holistic salve and telling me it would heal itself. After three months wearing a plastic collar, and the wound getting worse and worse, I finally went to Dr. Porter in desperation.)

Thanks for the wonderful recommendation, Bare. I'm going to take my dogs to Dr. Porter. I'm finished with Country Oaks.

I'm certain that Dr. Porter isn't for everyone. He has a very small office and not a lot of technicians or front desk staff. But to me he is the "real deal", and I understand he does a lot of pro bono work for humane societies. I was looking for an "old fashioned" vet. For instance, when the clinic received the results of the bioposy on my cat's tumor, Dr. Porter called me himself to discuss it. Not a technician. I really like that.

I called Dr. Porter's office today, the person I talked to said Dr. Porter treats lots of dogs with diabetes, so thanks so much Barefoot for your recommendation!
