Default My new Maltese puppy

I just got an adorable 10 week old Maltese puppy. I would appreciate any input on a veterinarian, groomer, dog park and anything else that would be good for my "as yet unnamed" adorable puppy.

Thank you!

Doggie Doo Run Run is the best dog park in or near the Villages. It is about one mile north of Southern Trace Shopping Center on CR101. You will come to it just before the intersection of CR101 and CR104. Cost is $3 a day per dog or $25 for a month-to-month contract. Dogs need to be current on all shots and think they have to be older than 6 weeks or so.

I have a bichon and use Roxie's Mobile Grooming. Haven't found a vet I like yet. We go to the dog park by the fire house.

Good luck with the puppy, hope you have many happy years together.

I would love to see a picture of your new Maltese. My avatar is Duffy who we recently said goobye to. They are the most loving and sweetest dogs. My advice is to acclimate him/her to be combed since they have hair and not fur which can tangle easily. My Duffy hated to be groomed because I made it an issue and not a pleasent experience. I know that you didn't ask for advice but giving a maltese people food can be detrimental to their health. We gave Duffy dessicated liver treats which was pure without chemicals. I guess I have so much to say because I'm envious that you are about to experience a great love affair. Please share your puppy with us and what his/her name is. Oh, another thing we trained
Duffy to be paper trained and it was a fast and easy process and saved him from having to go on the Florida grass since he was so tiny he would disappear in the grass and we feared the toxins sprayed so often. Forgive me for giving unsolicited advice but I want you and your puppy to be as happy together as we were with Duffyand not make the mistakes we made.
Good Luck...

Great advice, lovingly given!

p.s., We all miss Duffy, though not as much as you do, of course.

Good idea to trim the redish hair from the inside corner of the eyes when they are young. We found that it would eventually go away if you keep it trimmed when young. We cleaned they eyes every morning to avoid tear stains. Daily brushing also significantly decreases the hair shed in the house.

Thank you all of your wonderful advice. I need a lot of advice as I have not had a pet for quite some time. I am already in love with this little guy - got him yesterday. I hope to have a name real soon. I hope the photo of my cutie worked. If not, I will keep trying.

He is such a cutey, reminds me of my little boy when he was a puppy. If you ever need a puppysitter call me. He's so cute I might go on the lam with him though.
