Default Does Your Dog Watch TV?

I went through this with our previous dog and have noticed that our latest fuzzy friend growls and barks when he notices an animal on the screen. Fortunately he hasn't attacked the tv YET, although I've quickly grabbed the remote and change the channel.

The Girls, Halle and Sydney do watch TV. They don't really care for Animal Planet the dogs crying and whining upsets them. They do enjoy Home and Garden and The Food Network. We always leave the TV on for them when we are going out.

Me too, Halle, I leave the lights on and the tv on for them to enjoy while I'm out esp at night when I'm dancing. Think it makes me feel less guilty that I leave them alone for so long.

No, they don't watch TV but Lucy just fell in love with the dog she saw in the reflection of the oven door glass. Not too bright...

My Chihuahua "Bambi" enjoys watching t.v. with me. Anytime there is a large dog, horse or another large animal she barks at them.
She really barks at black dogs and horses the most.......she is a hoot!

Carl likes Bela Lugosi movies, "Dracula" the best, and he needs buttered popped vittles when he is watching. He doesn't care for Frankenstein. He thinks its too commercial.

Carl is our 145-pound Rottweiler, Bull mastiff, St. Bernard, Chihuahua mix mutt.

We did the plumbing for a kennel in Jersey and every other run had a tv hanging from the ceiling. They claim it keeps the dogs calm.

I bet TV goes nuts when the Westminster Dog show is on tv. Every dog in TV is glued to the tv. Commericals = a quick trip outside and then back to rooting for their fav.

Default Do dogs watch TV?

I think some dogs are capable of deciphering flat images and others aren't. I've owned 7 dogs, and only one (a standard poodle) responded to dogs on TV. He also went nuts whenever he saw a large stuffed toy animal or a garden statue of a dog. All the others were alert to sounds of barking or whining, but not to images.

I have had many dogs and none have "watched" TV........But now I have a watcher. Star is usually next to me on the couch, and any animal , but especially dogs, that appear on screen raises the hair on her back and she charges the TV......if I haven't grabbed her or changed the station quickly enough.....
Maybe it's cause we are watching in High Def..

My german shepherd bonyta 's ears perk up when there are dogs whining or barking on tv.She sometimes looks around the house and out the windows for these dogs.Guess my surround system must be pretty good!! I did have a shepherd who my wife swears when I was out playing cards they watched Homeward Bound together and he loved it!! As I understand it they don't see two dimensional images which I think is what tv broadcasts The Villages Florida

Well cats sure do. Baby Monroe likes the golf channel. He likes to watch the ball roll across the screen. He also chases the cursor on my computer.

Our dog (no longer with us) liked the old Burger King "Aren't you hungry for Burger King now" commercials. He could be sound asleep, and as soon as Burger King asked, "Aren't you hungry," he would jump off the couch and want to be fed. I just realized that this was 20+ years ago. I'm dating myself.

My little dog, Biggins, used to watch TV but quickly figured out that the dogs aren't real. When he was a puppy he used to love to look at himself in the mirror, but he lost interest in that also.

My big girl, Lolli Pup, isn't quite as bright. Lolli loves all animal shows on TV. She also loves the dancing M & Ms and the Geico commercials. Even the wooden puppets advertising a back medicine. She charges the screen and then looks behind the TV to see if they're hiding there.

My old dog Naugahyde would now and then get excited about something on TV and jump up and down pawing the set and wetting the floor. Glad we didn't have carpeting. I still miss that dog.
I used to watch Eastenders every Sunday (in Miami) and my cat Mollie would stretch out on the couch next to me and watch it. It was the only show she ever watched and this went on every week for over a year.

My dog sits next to me and watches TV through the back of his eyelids - just like his mother!
