Default Dog Rescue Volunteer Needs Help

I am trying to help a couple whose dog became paralyzed and it needs surgery this weekend. The surgery is very expensive and they have maxed out their credit cards. They are rescue volunteers and have done much to help the rescue. One of the ladies at the rescue has started a YouCaring.com fundraiser for the surgery. If you are on Facebook, please share their story to help them get the funds needed. You can read about it and donate if you wish by accessing it in two different ways. You can go to the FB page for Florida Dachshund Rescue or you can go directly to the YouCaring.com listing.

I am very sad to hear that Ziggy's veterinarian would charge an additional fee because this happened over a holiday weekend. Ziggy and his owners find themselves in a desperate situation through no fault of their own and charging additional $$ is just not right.

My dog just had the same thing happen recently. Due to a heart condition and other medical issues, surgery was not an option for him, so I'm afraid it was time for him to go to heaven. My thoughts are with you and Ziggy. I know it is so hard when your pet is suffering.

I agree with Kitty. Surgery of this type should only be done by the Animal Hospital in Gainesville. My 5 year old Schnauzer had liver cancer 4 years ago and my vet recommended going to the college hospital for the surgery where there are specialists. I did it,,, it was very expensive, but I was happy to save his life and get him back to quality living. They also have Credit Care (I think that's what its called) so you don't have to put the total up front and I believe there's no interest for the first year. I did sign up for that because this surgery totally was about $9000.

Ziggy is such a lovely doggy, I feel so sorry and hope this has a good ending.

Kathie, the dog owner lives in titusville..long way from uf vets, that said I agree, they are absolutely the only place I would take a serious pet problem.

Kitty, Thanks, I didn't know where they lived. But, its only about 2 1/2 hours one way. I met people there who came from southern FL and they stay overnight because its so important for them to get that special care. I know that's what I would do, especially because they have a payment plan they can use. Whatever they decide, I just hope it all works out, its such a cute pooch.

KathieI,

I agree that U of F in Gainesville is wonderful. We used someone else for our previous dog that had to have back surgery. But if we ever needed to do so again we would use U of F. We used them for something else and I can't say enough good things about them.

Kitty is correct. The couple live in the Titusville area. The rescue has foster families and volunteers located all over the state of Florida.

Regarding Care Credit....I've found out from others that not everyone qualifies for this. It is my understanding that it is like applying for a credit card. If you owe too much already or have credit issues, you don't qualify.
