My wife just related a story to me. A member of her memoirs group found a dog along the road a 10 years ago. It was a non-descript dog but she wanted to find out exactly what breeds were represented in the dogs dna. She had a dna test done and they reported back to her that her dogs contained 1/4 of 4 different breeds. I thought that was interesting.

That is cool - thanks John.
I imagine that DNA could also be used to identify the pets of "Poop-e-trators".

My brother had it done on his rescue (Skippy). He's black and white and with longish hair...kinda looks like an Australian Shepard. It came back Pit Bull, Beagle, and some other breed.....don't know if they're very accurate.....just saying...

I had a DNA test done on my dog. She is a cross between a Tibetan spaniel and Shih Tzu with some Lhasa Apso in the mix. I was surprised but when I looked at pictures of a Tibetan spaniel she has the exact body shape. I see more of the spaniel than the Shih Tzu. I have a real nice certificate with her picture on it.

It's odd that they seem to be so far off. Could it be that DNA tests on humans are just as unreliable?

We had a DNA for our dog Doodle. We rescued him from a shelter and he came from a puppy mill. First he was said to be a mix and then when we went to take him home they told us he was a poodle. If you had seen him the day we brought him home, you would have been sure he was a mutt with a capital M!
Anyway... we wanted to know, so we had the DNA done... He is 100% poodle! All that boy needed was a good groom. Not only did they know he was a poodle, they knew he was a "toy" poodle. Sweet!!! For $125 we got a 100% toy poodle. *sigh* I think at the end of the day we gave them enough money to buy many dogs... But the original poodle... $125! ![]()
