Default Beagles

You say it is a beagle and it was abandoned.
As a breed, beagles have issues with separation. They also howl and they will run away if given an opportunity. They need a lot of exercise. They are smart, they can be trained and can be great pets.

As to separation anxiety, that might be the reason why a previous owner abandoned the dog.
