Default Low electrolyte level

I just returned after leaving in April My club car with batteries that were new in January had been on the factory charger since then
I found the levels low, ranging from barely exposed plates to some that were nearly 1/2 inch exposed with deposits formed on the tops It took nearly 1 1/2 gallons of distilled water to top off all six How bad is this? I haven't noticed any decrease in performance but I haven't done any long trips or played 18 holes yet

If leaving your cart for a long period I would recommend using something like a batteryMinder to keep the batteries desulfated and charged in your absence.
