Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

My 2 cents worth: I visited my beautiful, beautiful little historic state of RI last Nov. for a week. Our home was 2 miles from a most beautiful beach. Newport, RI was a ten minute drive. The visit was for my Dads funeral. :'( The only time the sun peeked out was during the funeral. :) We saw some foliage and some snow flurries, it was damp, raw and gloomy and we couldn't wait to get HOME to the Villages. We were freezing! My mom won't step outside for months for fear of slipping on ice! After being here 3+ years, this is home. The SUN IS SHINING, the hibiscus are blooming, the sweetest smelling gardenias fill my lanai with the finest aroma, and the birds are at the feeder and singing!! Palm trees and flowers are everywhere. My friends in RI are envious that the sun is always shining here. It is raining or snowing and gray there 300+ days of the year. The temp. was 45 last week. Raining, cold, windy. This is May!! I DO NOT MISS THE COLD!! Friends and family visit us here and are really tired of the greyness they live with! Friends and family are depressed and wait for months and months for about 8 weeks of good weather. Even when summer finally arrives, it usually rains on weekends! They are all planning on joining us very soon!! My dad loved TV and was thinking of moving here, and he's italian with solid deep roots in RI. I wished it had happened for him, but he suddenly passed away. I am, however, very happy that he saw this great beautiful place and knows how happy I am!!!!

Ronda, I am so sorry to hear that you lost your dad. My sympathies are with you.

Your description of The Villages is beautiful! I bet my hibiscus is blooming also, unfortunately I'm not there to enjoy it. Stupid immigration laws. I won't be back until October, but it's a good thing that I never have to endure another Canadian winter!

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Ronda,

I really appreciate your post. You have helped me to be confident that I am making the right decision. You are so right about the very short "good" weather season. Most of the year we are stuck in looking out the window at gray gloomy skies. Its time to start living ALL year not just 3 or 4 months a year.

Im so sorry your dad did not get to enjoy TV but Im sure hes looking down and really happy that your happy!

Ronda, I'm so sorry about your Dad. My Dad was my best friend and unfortunately he didn't get to see it here. But, he trusted that vetman would take care of me and moving here was the biggest blessing and gift I could have received.

Now, Bare, we still have to figure out that immigration problem. :verymad:

And Nonie, hurry hurry and pack!

Love to all.

Ronda, we'll be having a reunion party on the September TOTV cruise for sure ... why don't you come on the cruise? In October, I'll be back for six months and believe me, the hills will be alive with the sound of music. Or something.

Kathie and Nonie, count me in on going to the ocean. I grew up on the ocean and miss it.

Right now we are in Boston and the weather is good, drive up was beautiful. We go back home Wednesday.

It is very beautiful where we live this time of the year with all the bulbs coming up, trees blooming and the orchards with the mountains behind them is also fantastic site.

Went to Mohonk Mountain House and as usual the place brought back many wonderful memories and we had a good time there.

With all of these positives in my life, including the most important ones - family, I still miss TV and all of my Sistahs.

See you soon.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Have been reading the notes posted since I last was here. I have to tell you how much your notes about old homes and new homes at TV have really cheered me up. I'm now in Indiana for my moms funeral. I had been taking care of her full time for a number of years and then the family placed her in assisted living while I was recovering from surgery. She loved it there and wanted to stay put. My husband was anxious to move to Florida for his health. I was really torn and in a lot of conflict...wouldn't all of us be.
Mom never did have the chance to see my Florida house. She loved my sending her pictures of things down here, flowers and green grass when she had winter up there, and shots of places we might visit down here..postcards meant a whole lot to her and I found her favorite ones tacked up on the bulletin board.

Anyway, the point is, she made new friends and new life and I wasn't. I had my FL house and a couple of friends but it still didn't seem right. So, admittedly, there has been some soul searching the last few days, and I now have a feeling that I can make the FL house now a HOME.

I'd really like those who post here that reading some of your notes helps shy people like me feel that there are friends out there that I just haven't met yet.

I had the same fears as I was living by myself going to a strange place. I have to tell you-these are the friendlest people you will ever find!!
You have been through a lot but welcome. You will always have friends and people to help you here on TOTV.
Hi everybody and Marianne!

Marianne, so sorry to hear about your Mom. I know how hard it is when we lose a parent. Please, when you get back here, home, come to Crispers. We love to meet new members and we sure do have a lot of fun!! I would be happy to introduce you to all the great people I have met. TOTV is the greatest place to meet new friends!

Hi Marianne, just wanted to say :welcome: and let you know that if you ever want to have coffee or lunch or something, just pm me. I know the first couple of months I was very lonely here and then I met some "lifelong" friends. My husband and I just love it here and are always on the go discovering new things to do. We've been here since Nov. for good and now it feels like I've never lived anywhere else!

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Marianne,

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. I lost mine a couple of years ago and the pain and anguish was indescribable. I felt like I lost my best friend.

I must tell you that never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would make new friends at this stage of life. Well "The Villages " certainly did prove me wrong. In the 3 months that I spent in TV this past winter I met some of the most wonderful, kind and caring people that I have ever known in my entire life! It really seems like TV brings out the very best in people and I have made more true friends then I have made in 37 years up north. (I never would have believed it).

You will without a doubt make great friends in a short period of time. The people are wonderful and the villages is incredible. How blessed we all are to have found this utopia.
(I am on the shy side too!) it doesnt matter, people in "The Villages" will find you and help you to live a beautiful life. Good luck! ;D

Marianne, I'm so very sorry about your mother. I'm glad you could share some of your joy for your Florida home with her. I'm sure she'll be thrilled when you get down here and make new friends. I don't know your beliefs, but I know my mom is on my shoulder watching, smiling and nodding her head when I meet someone new and feel I've met a kindred spirit and I've met so many kindred spirits here.

Ronda, in case you missed it, I suggested to a couple of visitors to meet us at LSL for Rocky on Tuesday. We just need to save a wall like Sam did last time. That really worked out well, don't you think?

Nonie, HB, BF, BS and everyone else who is gone ... HURRY UP AND GET BACK DOWN HERE! I miss all of you!!!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Happy Happy Day! Beautiful weather in western NY.
They caught the guy who was setting fires in Florida.
I am donating lots of stuff to try to start getting this house ready to put on the market. My husband has one more year to work. Will be back in the Villages end of June. Hi everyone! :)

Mcelheny,

You have a wonderful attitude toward life! Look at the contrast between your post & mine! Heres hoping some of that good stuff rubs off on me!

Thanks RW, I'm sure we'd all prefer to be in TV.
But at this age, the faster I hurry, the behinder I get.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Nonie,
I am already in the Villages. I stay by myself down there most of the time. But you are right...I am almost always happy. Everyplace has its own beauty. Plus, I lived and worked here as a teacher in upstate NY for 35 years so I have many friends here. I have another group of friends where I grew up...on a farm.
But I will say it again, I have met some super nice people in the Villages and on TOTV. This is the first year I have had a computer.
Life is good.
Good luck on your cleaning and thanks for being one of those super nice people! :)

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

I just watched both web cams to see what is happening in TV. :'( :'( :'(

OK, trying to remain positive here. We just lit a fire in the fireplace.
Going to watch American Idol with Fireboy. This weekend is "opening the cottage" time in Ontario. Gotta get the hot tub going. Everyone at the cottage will be in party mode. The wildflowers are blooming. The loons are having babies, and they are unbelievably cute. Now I feel better. ;D

samhass 05-15-2008 01:34 AM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Bare, I don't think loons should have babies. Only sensible people should have babies.
Love, Rose Roseannadanna

Village Kid 2 05-15-2008 01:48 AM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Here's one pulled out of the old memory bank:

Whenever I hear the word loon I remember a contest back in the 50's where the winner won a date with Henry Morgan on "I've Got A Secret". The contestants had to send in why they should be the chosen one. The winner was a woman who sent in the following:

She should win the date because Henry is a goon and she's a loon (alone).

Wow, talk about useless trivia stored in the old brain..................

nONIE 05-15-2008 02:12 AM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

VK,

Henry Morgan :yikes: Talk about a good memory, youve got one! It may be useless trivia but Im impressed that you remembered that story& Henry! Be grateful you still have a memory, I lost mine many years ago.

samhass 05-15-2008 02:52 AM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Nonie, I identify with that. I'm not sure if it's because I have "so much on my plate" right now, or if it's just "my age". Tonight I decided to check on hotel reservations in Santee, SC for my return trip to TV. It took me about 3 minutes to access the town "Santee" from my brain's hard drive! Sumter kept coming to mind. Duh!

Village Kid 2 05-15-2008 03:01 AM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

They say it's the short term memory that is the first to go. The old stuff is easier to pull up. Yikes! :o We better all get back inside the bubble (TV) so we'll be safe when it sets in. ;D

on the way, VK2

I can't remember 3 posts ago! What were we talking about??? :yikes: oh yes, Henry Morgan. LOLOL Wow that is an old name.

I am impressed with your memory VK - whether it is old or new info. I even remember who you are. ;)

I always try to remember a good joke so that I can repeat it. I remembered only one or two over the years. One song from an ancient television show that I always thought was cute I tried remembering, but sorry to report I can only remember part of it.

Happy to report my husband remembers all of it - sometimes he will sing it to me. We are very romantic - song is from Car 54 Where Are You?

Awwww Chels, That is so nice that Vetman sings to you. I'm glad you have such a happy marriage. A word of advice, however....don't let him start watching Paula Deen or you'll be in the same place Boomer and I are.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Uh oh, Sam, come back to the Bubble. You are losing it, dearie. It was Hyacinth that said Sidney sings to her, not Chels and Vetman. ;D

And, HB, I remember you too - very, very well, wild lady. ;)

Ah yes, our Never Never land. September cant come too soon!

It so nice to feel safe, happy and 14 again! Why is it that we feel so young and carefree when were in TV?

samhass 05-15-2008 09:12 PM

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Oops...short attention span on that one. I stand corrected. It's funny, but I can just see Vetman singing to Chels. It is wonderful to know that Sidney sings to HB. I just love romantic things like that. Sing on all! :)

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad

Another song that I like the way he and a friend sing together is the Vatican Rag.

At times they are pop songs also.
