With Quantum fiber, their pricing is not promotional meaning the price you pay is not scheduled to be increased after an initial period so, you lock-in your price when you sign up.

The "trick" with fiber is it needs to be installed properly meaning the main wifi device needs to be installed in the optimal location in your home without any extender pods. Sometimes, this requires a custom installation. Not expensive, you just need someone who knows how to do this. Sometimes one extender pod may be necessary but it needs to be installed properly or you will have the problem the OP is talking about. There are also some situations where the Quantum equipment will not work optimally in your home and in these cases you need a mesh system installed. There is one that I like a lot which is relitively inexpensive and has the features that make it work great. Not all mesh systems work the same and generally you get what you pay for.

I have been helping people here in the Villages get installed properly with Quantum fiber for several years so if you need some help, I'm a retired Villager just like you, please reach out to me. At the very least, I can answer all you questions.

Right now, in some areas of the Villages you can get 1Gbs for $45/month. That $35/month price was offered a couple of years ago and we will probably never see that again.
I have been thinking of switching. Foolishly listened to a young guy who came to my door. I called Quantum directly. I cannot get a direct answer from anyone as to how they will install this. I do not want a hole in my home or wires exposed. Can you advise?

Default Before you leave Spectrum

We left Spectrum and moved to Qualcom. Speed, price, quality great. But know you can no longer use or purchase Spectrum TV services. You will need to stream a TV services provider. I.E. Sling, UTube, Hulu, etc...

QUOTE=Julie McKee;2518528]Since our Spectrum Internet went up AGAIN another $10 (now paying $110 for 1 gig internet only)! Someone told us about Quantum Fiber so we're looking for advice and/or impression of this product and company in general.

We don't stream or game so 1 gig is fine for our needs. We'd appreciate any info about Quantum Fiber you could give us.[/QUOTE]

I used Quantum Fiber for several years. I had buffering issues, but tech support “sort of” corrected problem. I continued to experience buffering, but occurred less often. My big problem came when I moved to a new location in TV and QF was not available. Canceled service on 4/28 and returned equipment immediately. UPS confirmed receipt of equipment by QF on May 5th, however QF still charged me $637 on June 16th for unreturned equipment. It took me several days and numerous phone calls to get this corrected. I asked for an explanation of why I was originally charged and could not get a reasonable explanation. Not one of the agents I spoke with could speak English clearly so very frustrating experience. I’d go with another carrier.

Hello John, I live in the Village of Dunedin (off Hillsborough Trail) and was recently notified by Spectrum of the $10 price increase for internet service. The thread about Quantum fiber has me very interested. Do you know the cost for installation? Is installation pretty straightforward using the existing connections in the garage that Spectrum uses? My e-mail is "[email protected]" -- can I keep that e-mail address if I switch to Quantum? Thanks in advance for your help.

The tech came out a few weeks ago and diagnosed the problem to be the "mesh extender". It runs on a much slower speed. Seems since it was in the living room (where most of the usage occurs), all of our devices were picking it up instead of the main router.

Our tested speeds were in to 30-110 mgb range.

Once we unplugged the mesh extender, our speeds increased to 500-650 mgb immediately. No more buffering, no more lags.

All of our devices (2 TVs, 2 iPads, 2 iPhones, Printer, SimpliSafe alarm, doorbell and cameras) now function flawlessly.

And the price is 1/2 of what we were paying.
Internet connection gets more complaints then most other things. Change it? We will be there-half a day. They don't but should say like weather the odds are.
If it is working why change. Is it worth a half a day? Assuming it works right.
Surely there is a room-padded of course-full of techno nerds. It's WORKING. Must change something.

My installation was free. All equipment (modem, router and mesh extender included)...

My experience:

I changed because Spectrum's prices kept going up and up and the service was spotty. Often times, I would get the "connection is slow due to unexpected use" or some other nonsense. I was fed up.

For the initial Quantum installation, they gave me a 4 hour window (I had nothing planed that afternoon, anyway...). They arrived on time, spent about an hour setting everything up and were on their way.

When I had a problem, they scheduled a repair 2 days later, arrived in the scheduled window and had the problem fixed in 30 minutes...

It's more than sufficient except when it isn't. We had Spectrum 100 mb, and we had constant buffering, pixilation, and messages that the system was crowded, as we watch a blue screen twiddling our thumbs...

Another thumbs up for Quantum. House #1 was 1600 SF. 500 MB with a company owned mesh extender powered 4 TVs, 2 computers just fine until the wire got cut by mowers. Replaced by new generation router/modem with no extender and no issues. New house - 2200 SF. 4 TVs, 2 computers, Ring cameras. 500 mbs working dandy. $50 for life. 4 years great service.

As I understand it, you can keep your cell phone service, but the price will increase by $10 to $20 per line, depending on what plan you have, and you will lose access to the wifi hotspots.

We have used Quantum successfully for two years. Problem with original installer not setting up the router properly but it was resolved with a follow up visit from a more experienced technician and all good since. Only 35/month
