Default Hp computer

I have a HP Computer with a failing HDD, Geek Squad could see data but were unsure if it could be copied due to failing HDD, so no attempt was made. Can anyone help with this or recommend someone that can?

What is the data capacity of the HDD? I would start by trying to copy a few individual files to a flash drive. If this works, buy a large flash drive (they go up to 1 tb now) that will hold all of the files and copy them to the flash drive. Another option, assuming you have a Google account, is to go to "drive.google.com" and try to copy the files to your "my drive" which will have 15 gb of free data storage. In the future, use cloud storage instead of a hard drive.

If these options fail, take the computer to the MMD store on Rt 441 in Lady Lake.

What type of help are you looking for? Was the data not backed up and you want to try to save documents and photos? If the drive is failing, you are going to need a new computer....

You can buy a hard disk reader for under $10, pull the hard disk (easy on a desktop, less so but doable on a laptop), plug it into another computer and try to copy whatever you want to save to the new machine.

Or, if you want to save the existing computer, you can buy a new hard drive, image the old one if it's not toast, transfer the image to the new one, and install the new one in the old computer (again, easy on a desktop, less so on a laptop). I would just buy a new computer, but that's just me (and prob most other people).

Or do this.

If you get a new drive and can't copy your old drive to the new one, you'll have to install Windows 11. Your computer may not be up to snuff for it. I use Linux Mint, easy to use and free.
