You have a few options:
1. Some routers have a signal strength adjustment in the software. You would have to log into the router as the administrator.
2. If it is possible you could relocate the router closer to the lanai. (more centrally located in the house)
3. You can go to a store (like best buy) and buy a Wi-Fi repeater (Wi-Fi Range Extender). (cost about 60 dollars)

NETGEAR Universal WiFi Range Extender with 4port Ethernet Switch WN2000RPT-100NAS - Best Buy

Or, change the channel, some work better than others.

Can you still do that on the new routers?

I had the exact same problem. I live in a block and stucco house. Wi-Fi OK until I went on the lanai. Then I lost signal strength. I think the block wall and maybe the glass sliding door blocked the signal. I bought a repeater, as suggested by another poster. Problem, mostly solved. The signal is much stronger on the lanai, but if I sit too much to the side of the lanai (the area most behind the block part of the wall), the signal is not quite as good as sitting more toward the center of the lanai (the area blocked only by the glass sliding door). The repeater helped a whole bunch.

I had the same problem with my iPad and wanted to leave my router in the front bedroom (used as an office) so I bought another router with DD-WRT firmware installed. This firmware has a few advantages and allowed me to set up the router as a "repeater/bridge" so I have it located in the living area by the television. I works as a repeater but also I have the TV and a couple of older gadgets hard wired into it.

I regularly test the connection speed and usually get my full 10mbps at the opposite side of the house and on the lanai.

I have had this for over 2 years now and it's worked fine.

I did change my service to try "Prism" (18 months ago) and they could not get my router to work with their "gateway" at that time so I changed to DirecTV and Century Link for Internet and everything has been fine using a regular modem.
