If you don't want to use the Yahoo platform, you can do the same thing by setting up a Gmail account (or just about any other email account). Here is how:

"Yes, you can forward your comcast.net email address to a Gmail account. To set this up, log in to your Xfinity Webmail, go to Settings > Auto Forward, check the box to enable forwarding, enter your Gmail address, choose whether to save a copy in Comcast, and save your changes."

Xfinity has a vested interest in moving your email to Yahoo, but you don't need to go along with it. Personally, I wouldn't.

Xfinity is closing down their comcast.net platform. Why are they telling you to move your comcast.net email address to Yahoo? I cannot be certain, but probably because Yahoo is paying Xfinity for the accounts. You need to move your email account to another platform, but it is your choice about where to move it. Yahoo is only one choice.

Xfinity/Comcast offered you an option? For me it was along the lines of "Your Xfinity email inbox is moving, click here to set up your Yahoo account"

And since this was brought up again I went through the process of moving my inbox. You mentioned auto-forwarding above. Yahoo does not support that with their free account but I'm not interested in paying for that feature.

Gmail does support auto-forwarding for free. I think that Xfinity did not give you any options except Yahoo because they made a deal with Yahoo and they don't want you to go anywhere else. But it is a free country and most email accounts are free. So you can use any email system that you want. Yahoo is just one of many options.

Here is what AI says about Gmail vs Yahoo:

"Yes, Gmail is generally rated higher and is much more popular than Yahoo Mail, largely due to its superior search tools, clean layout, and powerful integration with Google apps like Docs, Drive, and Calendar."

- Xfinity is moving your account from Comcast to Yahoo
- You can configure you account in Comcast to auto-forward
- "You need to move your account to another platform, but it is your choice about where to move it"

To clear up what I was trying to say:
- You DO NOT have a choice about which Inbox mail addressed to @comcast.net will go. It WILL got to Yahoo
- While you can configure the inbox on the Comcast servers to auto-forward, it will require a paid subscription to enable auto-forwarding once the inbox is migrated to Yahoo

Yes, you can create a brand new email account on gmail. Yes, gmail has desirable features. BUT, once your @comcast.net inbox is migrated to Yahoo, mail sent to that address WILL NOT land in your new gmail inbox UNLESS you pay a Yahoo+ subscription fee.

You will either need to either:
1. Login to Yahoo to read your @comcast email;
2. Pay Yahoo to forward your mail to your new @gmail address; or,
3. Provide your new @gmail.com address to anyone using your current @comcast.net address

I am going with a combination of 3 and 1.

See Post No. 16. You don't need to pay Yahoo anything. Before you even get a Yahoo account, you can set up auto-forwarding from Xfinity to Gmail directly. Then, just notify everyone on your contact list that you now have a Gmail address that they can start to use.

Note, that you can also use your Gmail account to pull your Yahoo messages to the Gmail account for free. You do not need a paid Yahoo account to do this. You only need a paid Yahoo account if you are setting up auto-forwarding using the Yahoo platform.

Sorry to sound redundant, but I would try to eliminate anything going to Yahoo in the first place. Since I have a Google account and use many of their features, I think Gmail is a better option than Yahoo.

I've read that Xfinity will give you 60 days before they de-activate your e-mail account after cancelling your Xfinity internet. Apparently, they don't want to support it anymore. But I'm curious what "actually" happens because I had a frient who moved to another carrier, moved to gmail, and the Comcast.net e-mail stayed On.
When we moved down here 5 years ago, they told me never. We had disconnected ours up north and they told me they don't disconnect or delete accounts after you leave. I found that interesting, probably not something I would bet the farm on but...

As long as Xfinity is operating their email platform, they will not close out your email account. You do need to stay active by using the account periodically by logging in to their server. However, when Xfinity shuts down their email platform this year, they will no longer be in the email business, so you be dealing with Yahoo or another email service.
