Default Smartphone - Android or iPhone5?

I am with Sprint, so with the expected availability in October of the iPhone5 with Sprint, I will have a choice between the iPhone5 and the Android phones (HTC, Samsung etc).

I would be interested in hearing from any of you who checked out both the iPhone and Android smartphones, and hear why you picked the one you did, and your experiences with it to date.

I'm a huge Apple fanboy, so I am quite biased.

Since Apple keeps things pretty under wraps until they officially announce their products, this question is moot until next week, when Tim Cook will introduce the world to the iphone 5.

Until then, you are trying to compare a known product, (Droid) to an unconfirmed product, (iphone5).

Smile Phones

I have the Droid X and although it is a nice piece of equipment, I find it slow to respond. I feel I can think and act faster than the device can respond. The phone quality I find is much better with the iPhone 4 than the Droid when receiving or making calls. Apps, that is another story as I find my co-workers that have iPhones have nicer apps than available for the Droid. Another issue is music. I like the idea of using my iTunes with a device other than a Nano. I could upload the songs into my iTunes on my laptop then sync it to the iPhone and have the best of both worlds without having to carry two devices.

I have been with Verizon for years and Verizon will release the iPhone5 next month. I am already on the list to get one and most likely try to sell this
Droid X on ebay or something.

Anyhow, this is just my $.02 ....

Default AT&T towers

Since I have the iPhone and iPad with AT&T, I'm just wondering if any of those new AT&T towers were recently activated......as AT&T indicated?

I'm up north.......where 4 bars is the norm. Not on every corner, though.

I have the Android HTC which I love but it does not have the Skype feature. When my contract is up I will purchase an iphone to skype with family and friends when we move to the villages.

I'm trying to understand your statement because Skype is available on Android phones. Do you mean that it doesn't have a forward-facing camera for use during a Skype conversation? There are Android phones available that have froward-facing cameras.

No 4G on the iPhone 5! Not till 2012. Kind of a deal breaker, I'll probably trade my 3Gs for Android. Love my Android tablet. Much easier to use than my giant iPhone (iPad2). Plus I can do things with it without getting it approved by god (Apple)

I'm with Verizon and had a Droid Incredible....which died an ugly death this week. Not sure what happened, but it suddenly took ten minutes to get a call through. Since I needed a new phone and I have an Ipod touch that I really like, I went with an I phone 4.

Really liked my Droid, that is until it went belly up this week.

There are enough apps for both phones, really, and you get used to whatever phone you use. One thing, though, there are some apps not available on certain Droid phones...that's what kept me from getting a particular model Droid phone. If there's something you use or would want to use, make sure it's available for the phone you pick.

Bionic Android - breathtaking! You really need to see what you are missing. It has it all plus dual core and 4G.

It is great that we all have so many good choices.

The point I was making is that it has been 461 days since the iphone 4 came out. Next week the iphone5 will be announced. If I were in the market for a new smartphone, I would at least wait until next week and make an informed decision then.....

So far love my Droid. Apple makes good stuff but it is too proprietary for me. I bouught a spare batt. for the Droid for $5.50 online. Can't have a spare batt. for the Iphone. One of my BFFs had an Iphone we have compared apps. functions etc. Both phones are very capable. I will probably look to upgrade to 4G in the next incarnation. We have Verizon.

Default Update - My choice between Android and IPhone

After reading some rave reviews about it, I decided to buy the just released Samsung Galaxy SII from Sprint. It is a great Android phone - fast with a beautiful big screen. And I was looking forward to an Android phone which did not have the Flash limitation that Apple has imposed on their products.

But after trying it out, I found the ease of use not to my liking so went to the AT&T store and took a look at the iPhone 4. It seemed much easier to use, and after reading more about the expected new iPhone and the family of Apple products and services, decided to return the Galaxy phone to Sprint, and wait for the new iPhone which they were expected to carry.

Well yesterday the new upgraded iPhone 4S was announced. I don't think that from a hardware viewpoint it will be as good as the Galaxy - I will miss the 4G capability, and nice large screen of the Galaxy SII. But again, I like the iPhone ease of use and integration with other Apple Products and services which I will use (iPad, which I have, iTunes, iCloud, Apple TV, and maybe iMatch). The Voice Recognition looks like it will be a great breakthrough capability as well.

So I have drunk the Apple juice and plan to get the new iPhone from Sprint when it becomes available later this month. I must stress that this is obviously a personal choice. If you are going through the same decision making, check out the phones in the Sprint and AT&T stores nearby, and I would be more than pleased to chat with you and share my experiences.

Cool

Interesting thread....

I have a Droid X (Android), after having an iPhone for a couple years. In my opinion, the experience couldn't be any more different; iPhone .vs. Android.

I'll say this first.... I own an Apple Mac Book Pro and an iPad...love them both; they just work! By the way, so did the iPhone and I only sold it because it was my phone in Germany. I didn't want AT&T and couldn't wait for the iPhone on Verizon last year, so got the Droid X...

Probably the biggest difference is that when you have a problem with an Android device, you have to go back to the cell phone store. Generally speaking, they only know how to "reset to factory settings" or replace the phone. First though, they will make sure anything wrong with the phone is your fault and that you don't know what you're doing. Versus, if you have a problem with an Apple device [any Apple device], you only have to go to an Apple store to get help; always friendly and helpful. When you lave the Apple Store, you issue will be resolved...period.

In the meantime, I've begun to like the fact that I can no longer take a photo with my Android phone....or a movie ....or that it reboots itself for no apparent reason...or that every time they update the Android software it screws up something else.

One more year on my contract and then it's iPhone; no matter the number designation..iPhone 4s, iPhone 5 or whatever.

Sorry for the rant...
