Default Google warning of hack attempt from Kaluga, Russia!!!

I received an alert from Google this morning indicating they stopped a hack that was in process trying to access my Google account. At their suggestion I did change my password to a stronger version.

Is there anything else that one should do to take precautions once it becomes known that some sort of information of mine is on some list somewhere?

That is a scary thing. I use Norton Internet Security. It is a yearly subscription which costs about $75.00 for 3 computers. It is an on-line version so it updates very often with all of the new viruses out there. I have used it for 5 years and believe me I am on the computer all of the time going here and there and have never had any issue. I've never had a virus. It pretty much catches everything. I would say it catches a hack request several times a week. Changing your password is for sure is important.

Are you referring to Google Gmail?

This is interesting as I have 2 android based phones (can you say Google based) and google accounts, and did NOT get any message. Please be sure this was not a phishing attempt. I suggest that you got into google directly, confirm your password was changed, and possibly change it again while directly logged into Google. I generally do not click on any links with messages like the OP described.
