Default Lagging in centurylink email account

I am going crazy trying to send emails. I have this horrific lag (up to 30 secs, it seems). I don't have this problem in any other site or my other email account, just centurylink. Anyone else having a problem with embarg or centurylink email? Any suggestions to fix the problem? Could I have a spyware program on just that account?

HELP!

I just had a $48 charge for "Long Distance" on my last bill. No details. I had called in late September to remove the "long distance blocker" which I have always had on the account due to it being rented. Kept getting transferred around and then disconnected. I was calling from Ohio and when I finally reached a real person they couldn't access a Florida account. Couldn't give me the # to call, could just internally transfer me (and disconnect me).

Long story short, used about 45 minutes on my cellphone (and I don't have unlimited minutes). Told me I could see details of the charge online. Tried to set up my online account access, problem there - their system (I guess) kept taking the @ out of my email address and saying it was invalid, said to call customer service.

The customer service person I was talking to said she couldn't do anything about my online account access. Finally tells me the $48 was for long distance calls during the last tenancy. ??? I told them it was supposed to have "long distance block" on account until I called in late Sept. Said someone must have called to remove it sooner. Had no record of anyone calling in to remove that (not even mine in late Sept).

Next person I talked to reviewed the account history and said they would credit my account in a "month or two." I should have time to recover before I have to call them again. Still can't access my account online.

Good thing I am "retired" to have time to deal with this stuff. Now I can address my parking ticket issue with the City of Columbus! That's another story . . .

Just paid my bill on-line as I have for several years now. No problems encountered from here. Hope you get the issues resolved as on line payments are a time and money saver (stamps).

It's not about paying the bill, it was disputing the charges on the bill. I have had all my utility bills set up for automatic payment thru my checking account for years - that's even easier than paying online. Also my golf cart insurance, car insurance, etc.

I only pay bills online (electronic checks) when they are non-recurring, or I want to review them first, etc. I get a paper copy of my utilities and other villa-related bills right now, as I file them for a back-up for my Schedule C (renting my villa). Next year, will change that to an on-line notification to save some trees.

Thanks, tried it, didn't help the email account at all. I just find it strange that that is the only place I lag. Any other thoughts, suggestions? JimJoe??

If I had to guess, I'd say CenturyLink has a problem with their email server; assuming you haven't changed anything in your setup. Have you called CenturyLink with the problem?

It's pretty easy these days to just go to another free email provider, like Yahoo, Google or Hotmail...

Just my .02 ...

If it were any account but my centurylink account, I would just switch it over, but that's my client account and I don't want to bother people to have them change email addies.

As to calling centurylink, I haven't been able to get through and this has been going on for 3 weeks now. Driving. me. CRAZY!

Guess I'll give it to the end of the month and then switch to a new account if I have to. sigh

I can try....

One question. Do you access Embarq email via a web browser or are you using a mail client on your PC such as OutLook or Outlook Express?

I will guess it is a web based system. When do you see the lag, after you hit the send button?

I refuse to use Outlook -- had too many problems in the past, so it is strictly web browser. The problem is only when I type. No lag in opening up or sending.

What you describe cannot be isolated to Century link. It may be them, but it also could be in your system. Do they have an online chat? If the phone system terrible that may help.

Before I chatted with them, I would try to access from another computer (maybe a neighbor's). If the problem does not exist on the other computer, you at least know where to focus.

Sorry, wish I had more.

AJ, what I'm afraid of is that there is some sort of spyware program in my email account -- one that records every keystroke. I'm very careful as to what I open (no attachments, etc.), so I'm not sure how this is possible, but it's the only thing I can think of. I've used a couple of spymal programs, but nothing that jumps out at me. And I really don't have the lag in any other site. So, do you think it might be a spyware program or just a CenturyLink issue?

I would give what AJBROWN suggested. Try another computer. What you type should not be affected. Could be spyware but until you test it you will never know. If and when you do get hold of centurylink. They are going to have you test it with them. Good Luck
