We purchased a home in Collier and have to choose a Internet and TV and maybe Phone service, we move in the end of January.
I understand there are three vendors that will provide TV and Internet and phone, Century Telephone, Comcast, and Bright House and then of course, TV from Directv and Dish. My hope is that the vendor will complete the wiring in the Leviton box so we will have a working LAN. The wife is a TV 'junkie', and I'm an 'internet' junkie. My question which vendor or combination of vendors will give the most advanced services. While price is a concern, it is not a limiting factor. Speed, TV channels, TV picture quality, and DVR functionality come first. We are leaving a FIOS home and have become somewhat "spoiled". Any and all suggestions are welcomed and any contacts with the local PC club that has information on hard wired LANs would be appreciated. We are looking forward to joining the fun in the Villages. |

We have Century Link Prism service. Both tv & internet. We do not have phone. Been very happy with their service, however, they offer wireless boxes for the tv. Tried them and when the power was interrupted, they went out and needed to be rebooted. Not the worse thing, just clumsy. We had then change over to wired boxes, no charge, and things have been great. Remember, this is a phone company, so your phone line is activated, you can use it for 911 call if needed per the installer. Yes there is dial tone. I like the extra protection it offers as cell service is what it is here in metro The Villages.

Thanks for the information. I had missed that they have fiber optics in Collier. Im a little confused by the dial tone, you have dial tone with no phone service charge or phone number?

We are in a similar situation. Moving in mid Feb. I am pretty sure I will go with Comcast for TV and Internet. Not sure about TV. We currently have DISH and love it but the cost is a lot higher than cable TV with internet. I will give Comcast TV-Internet a try and can always switch to DISH later if needed.
As for phone I can highly recommend Ooma. You buy the box price around $129 and just plug it into your router. Phone service is FREE except for taxes about $3.50 a month. We have one in our current home for about 5 years now. I have several friends who also have Ooma which is an internet based phone system just like what the others charge you $25-30 a month for. You have all the same features! |

I decided to try prism triple play. I'm pretty good at tech issues so I hope I can get any freezing problems resolved. If it doesn't work out, xfinity is my backup.
I was at the consumer electronic show and Prism is doing so interesting things such as coming out with a smart tv app for LG TVs. It lets You watch all channels without a hardware box. |

You might not have a choice, many areas only have a single provider other than dish.

The home has at least three choices, prism, bright house and xfinity. Directv also looks like the have a decent offering in addition to Dish.

Comcast has far and away the best TV service in The Villages. There HD on demand and 3D on demand offerings are outstanding. Internet is blazing fast and extremely reliable. Customer service and billing is a challenge but their products are truly the best available.

So even though Prism, (Centurylink) and Bright House have fiber to the Home (south of 466A), Comcast is a better product? Is anyone happy with Prism and their whole house DVR service?

I had Prism in my home in St James (fiber to the premise). Side by side with Xfinity, picture quality as no comparison. Prism has ZERO high definition on demand and the Internet was painfully slow. I tried it for 3 weeks and turned in the equipment.
Having an on demand library in old school square (4:3) 480i standard definition in 2013 is an embarrassment. Who watches that? If it's not HD, we don't want it. |

I was reading the fine print on the Prism T&Cs and it states that the service is limited to 4 video streams, one being HD and the rest standard definition. This seems to imply that only one TV can watch HD at a time, can this be for real??? Bottom line, do you know of any specials for Xfinity service for new installs???
