Default totv/hi graphics pages slo 2 load

brand new hp laptop - 3 days old - ran great before updates today - most pages load as quick as a bunny - totv and app.com do not.

should I uninstall all updates? one was for hp security framework - do I need to keep that one? one that failed was for the hp notebook system bios update [amd processors] and a note indicates that this update is not available anymore.

oh, my, my! how I wish I was more computer literate and better computer educated!

ps - virtual geezer - if you read his - I take it back - I am liking windows 8!

Buy a Mac and you will never go back.

You need to know just what the HP Security framework is. I have an HP notebook here that is 4 years old and I just checked all the updates and I see nothing showing anything to do with HP. All were for Microsoft products.

Don't uninstall any of the updated to Windows 8 as many are needed. Also Windows 8 has it's own anti virus now called Windows Defender.
This is the same program that was called Microsoft Security Essentials in Windows 7. It runs in the background and Microsoft updates the definition file I think twice a day.

It is also common that a few days after installation there will be a massive update to bring things up to date as there have been a few issues that have been corrected from the October release.

Did you install another anti virus program on your computer such as Norton, McAfee, Avast or AVG? Windows 8 as well as Windows 7 does not play well with two anti virus programs on the same system.

Is only TOTV the only page that is slow to load or everything on the web?

Also how are you getting into the browser? Via the Desktop tile or the IE tile? Most people have found the IE tile to be worthless and have unpinned it from there start page. I only use IE via the Desktop tile.

Also I just tried app.com and it took some time to load but I think that is because of the ISP I am using and the Wi-Fi. Once the page loaded I was able to move around with no problems. TOTV has never been a problem.

installed th Norton free trial

most pages are loading fine - Hotmail, facebook, msn.com, homepage, weather.com; newspaper and every totv page is slo 2 load - 0ver 60 secs.

getting to browser via desktop - agree that the start tile is useless

have notepad and Microsoft games been banished or have I just not found them yet?

Cool Slow on my Mac too....

Don't know if this helps for your troubleshooting, but I'm on a MacBook and I have noticed a definate slowdown in ONLY TOTV on my system too. It's only been for the last week. Seems that the advertising graphics are extremely slow to load and then the rest of the page loads as usual.

I'm surprised others aren't having this issue too.... Comes and goes for me though.

Junk the Norton freebie as you don't need it with Microsoft Windows Defender. Like I mentioned more than one anti virus programs running at the same time do not play well in Windows 7 or 8.

The new start screen is designed my Microsoft to allow the same screen to be used on a tablet and Windows phone. Learn one on one device and you have learned on all three.

To get the games just click on the Store tile and scroll over to games. Notepad is still there and I get to it via the Desktop tile. You can also get there by just typing notepad when you are on the Start screen. There is no need to click on anything else.

Here is another thing you may want to try to get over the learning curve of Windows 8. Go to this site ninite.com and scroll down to Utilities. Check Classic Start and then scroll down and click on Get Installer. This will install a start button on the desktop screen just like you had in all previous versions of Windows. After installing it right click on it to see the settings page. Here you can set things up to look like an XP or Windows 7 or Vista start screen. Plus there are a lot of other settings you can play with.

You will notice with the classic view that you turn it off whenever you want and use the desktop in the Windows 8 mode. I am finding that I am using the classic start less and less.

One other thing about Windows 8 is that you will be using the windows key (the key on the keyboard between the CTRL and ALT) more in 8 than ever before. Just go to the Store tile and scroll over to Utilities. Look at the free utilities and install the free Windows 8 cheat key and help apps. There are a lot of short cuts that make life a lot easier working with Windows 8 and all you have to do is find them and get use to using them.

Comes and goes for me too, on my iPad. When it's slow I will check my speed and open up a blank tab and everything is as normal. Also I do not load any advertising so it's not that issue for me.

I am only experiencing the slowdown on TOTV.

I flagged this thread for the admin to investigate. I have experienced similar "stall" symptoms on TOTV recently.

Back to the OP's topic of configuring a new Windows 8 computer...

It just dawned on me this morning that TOTV pages were extremely slow in loading. Am not experiencing this on any other sites.

Regarding the slowness issues of TOTV all I can say is that I am not noticing anything. Using Xfinity (Comcast) at the slowest setting possible and using wireless. Overall performance is not what I have up north by a long shot.

I am running Windows 7 or 8 (dual boot lap top) and IE 9 on Windows 7 and IE 10 on Windows 8. TOTV is acting normally on either O/S.

Ditto here for TOTV slow performance. As recently as this morning it will take up to 45 seconds for one page to close and a new one open. It has been like this for about 10 days now. No problems with any other sites.
