Default Weird Laptop Computer Problem

My laptop is driving me crazy. When I type, whether it is an email or a document, if I do not watch the screen constantly, the type will automatically go to another line. It could be anywhere, even in the address. It had never done this since I got it 10 months ago but started a few months ago. I can't stand to do emails any more, as I have to keep deleting and moving back to the proper spot! Anyone know what could cause this??

Have no idea what causes this, but it happens to me occasionally too. I just assumed I was typing too fast and hit a key by mistake which causes this to happen. You're right, your cursor can end up anyplace in the message and becomes a big mess if you don't realize its happened and you keep on typing.

Hello YL - my new Latitude did that as well, in the beginning. What I learned was that while I was typing my thumb would just barely touch the mouse, (located where I usually rest my thumbs) and the cursor would jump all over the place. It was so casual, I didn't even feel my finger touching the pad. I also found out that hitting the Enter key too hard would sometimes cause me to send an email before I had completed it.

Very sensitive things are these notebooks.

This is caused by the touchpad. You should disable it. Some are disabled in the control panel, others have a button to tap top left. Otherwise, Google to disable the touchpad in your brand laptop.

I had my touchpad replaced on my Mac-book Pro but it's still thinking on it's own when I play scrabble. Sometimes the letters don't want to go where I put them and they'll "run away"! I have to go back and round them up until they listen to "Mom". Kinda funny.

I had to disable the touchpad, using the control panel, and now I use a mouse most of the time. I'm thinking about getting a wireless mouse like my wife has so I can use it anywhere, even on a non-flat surface.
If I'm going mobile, I will enable the touchpad but I have to raise my hands a little to type so I don't hit it by accident.

Same problem here... was told to tape a piece of thick paper (3X5 card) over the mouse pad. Did this with my and my husband's laptops and we're both using an optical mouse. It worked.

Default Me too.

There is a problem in one of the Windows updates that causes this issue- jumping cursor!!!

I worked with Dell support and they got me to roll off the update and the issue stopped.

Good luck.

Laptops can be a real PITA. I get the urge to pretty much on a daily basis!
I must have had or used at least 8 laptops since I first started using them and I've had this problem on every single one of them. That includes Packard Bell, Dell, Gateway and HP. I've given up using a mouse a long time ago but as previously mentioned, it is possible to disable the touchpad on most modern units. You just have to get used to switching back and forth as you will need the touch pad to do such things as highlighting an area to delete. While disabled you can still move your cursor around by using the up, down, left and right arrows.

Thanks so much!!!!!! I followed your search and it worked! I was told to hold the Fn button down and press the F7! So far it is fine. You cannot believe how much I have struggled with this problem. This is why I just got on the forum, so I am not sure what I am doing yet:-)

Glad that it helped. My Fn/F7 dims my screen and I don't need to be any more dim than I already am!

My screen has been looking kind of dim also! That was lately though and before I made the change. Another thing to challenge this computer nit-wit! Oh no!
