Remove the HD and destroy. Not complicated.

They are pretty hard to open up. I usually drill a few holes in it through the bottom casting. That should render it unreadable.

An engineer friend of mine told me to remove the hard drive and drill several holes in it. I've yet to do it.

How about either drill or shoot holes in it and then let it soak in bucket of water for a day or so? Water and electronics are never a good combination.

When destroying a HDD, there are some things to remember:
1st: remember a cd skipping or a record jumping over a crack in the disk? The same idea apply's to the HDD. If you put a hole in the HDD, technically, they still can get some data off of it. However, they would need NCIS level of equipment to do it. 2nd: Water doesn't hurt a hard drive. The information is magnetically stored. This is why a magnet can cause some corruption in a hard drive. Though you would need a REALLY powerful magnet. Now if you threw it in the Atlantic....... 3rd: The aim of this entire procedure is to destroy the platters inside. (They look like cd's) So if you can get the case open, the platters are pretty easy to destroy. Getting it open is the problem though
