Default Nexus 7

Anyone here have one? Is it worth a look? Seems quite reasonable.

I have had one for about a month. I like the blazing speed, battery, the size, the sleek lines and the crisp display. I got the 16gb for the $250. I'm not sure why they didn't put a back facing camera (even cheap cell phones have them). An HDMI output would have been nice. I use it in the car for mapping, even though I have a built in GPS in the car. I set my cell phone to wifi hotspot to allow the nexus to access the internet maps/directions. Although I do have my most frequent travel areas cached (no issues with the 16 gb model) All said, I think it's the best 7 inch android out there. The Lenovo is a close second (slightly more features but a bit chunkier).

Have it. Love it. Best tablet available today. But be aware there's a lot of announcements coming soon. Amazon expected to have new Kindle Fire this week, new Nook, Apple may have mini-iPad, Windows 8 hardware is starting to appear. There's even rumors of new Nexus 7 already, likely with camera and SD card reader, maybe even cell since there's already LTE antenna inside. Keep watching.

But Nexus 7 is incredible. My only suggestion is to go with the 16GB. I considered 8GB, glad I didn't because I'm now over 8GB, although large offline maps may have put me over.

From what I can tell, the Kindle Fire 7" HD offers more for less money. Amazon can do this because their profit comes from the content you buy. Amazon and Apple have dominated the tablet market, with others trying and giving up. My recommendation would be to go with one of the two successful tablet producers - more content, more apps and a proven track record.

I love my Nexus 7 - I have unlocked the boot loader and rooted the device. With a new custom ROM loaded I now have the perfect 7" tablet set the way I want it to be. Battery life is close to 12 hours of watching movies or reading books. It is perfect for pool side entertainment.

I'm also a member of the "Love-my-Nexus-7" club. I enjoy books, crosswords, and assorted word, card, and strategy games on it. I find it very responsive. Also it's light weight and convenient to carry in a purse for use while waiting for class to start and/or other appointments.

After reading the Daily Sun and enjoying a cup of coffee on the lanai in the A.M. , I use it to go online and check email and favorite websites.

I would have purchased the 8 GB version but when I bought mine they were hard to find in any size; I didn't quibble when I found one locally and it was 16 GB. No movies or music on mine so I still have 12.3 GB available.

BBQMan mentioned the Kindle Fire 7" HD: Here's a link to a very timely article comparing it with the Nexus 7.
