But I don't believe winzip is free.

It's the only one I've ever used, though. Works as advertised - been around forever.

am considering 7 Zip. cnet gives it good marks; great user reviews; and free. used to use winzip back when an evaluation offering was free! wonder why i haven't unzipped files in years!

Have you tried Windows Explorer? I am using Windows 7 and just tried WE that came with it and it worked perfectly. You may have to right click on the file and say open with Windows Explorer but it works.

I've used 7-zip with success. But try "google" for unzip utilities, there are many for free download.

I gave up all of those feebies for Windows Explorer's zip/unzip. Works great.

Under Win7 just right click on the desired zipped folder and click on extract all

XP and Vista have the same function. If it is a zipped folder, right click will ask you to extract. If it a non-zipped folder, Send will ask you if you want to compress(zip) it.

Just go to the delete function on ur computer and remove the one u dont want. I agree with you I use AVG exclusively but I use the free version and have had absolutely no virus problems that it didnt take care of. Its not necessary to waste ur money when the free version works perfect and I download stuff 24,7. Be careful of what u download cause of copyright infringements. The way to get arould this is a program called MASK SURF PRO . THERE IS MANY MORY BUT i LEAN TOWARDS THIS ONE
