Default another cable company?

OK, I'm trying to figure out what cable/dish option to get now that we will finally be snowbirds instead of landlords/occasional visitors.

Couple of months ago had a triple option with CenturyLink of internet/DishNetwork/landline

Suddenly (when I checked 2 days ago) CenturyLink now had DirecTV instead of Dish Network.

Today I look again and it mentions Prism (but only in certain states, and Florida wasn't one of them). No mention of DirecTV or Dish Network. Not many details at all, says to call, which I will tomorrow.

Also says Qwest and CenturyLink may merge. Who knows what that will bring?

I can't keep up. Has anyone who has Dish or DirecTV with CenturyLink gotten any notices about anything?

Century Link will grandfather you in with Dish. We dropped Dish for Direct TV yesterday as we want HD without paying an upgrade fee. We can still put it on vacation mode when not there. I just called Direct TV. I'll get 2 bills instead of one.

We moved in February - started with CenturyLink/Embarq then switched to the Comcast triple bundle - with HDTV, a DVR, phone (unlimited in North America) and internet access it comes to $150 per month for everything which includes a sports package to watch FSC. Comcast internet is very fast which we like as we download Netflix movies. I checked out all the combinations of Dish, Comcast and Embarq and it seems to me that by the time I had got what I wanted they all added up about the same. With cable we have the HD DVR for the big TV - other smaller TVs around the house you can just plug the cable in and you won't need any kind of converter/adapter box.

If you have high speed internet then something to look into is Ooma which could save you money on the phone.

Have used Century Link/Dish for the past four years with no real problems. Just returned from five months "pause" on Dish and they wanted to raised my monthly rate $12. Called to complain and was told they would give me a $5 monthly credit for six months. Said no thanks and am having Direct TV installed tomorrow through Century Link. Got a reduced rate for twelve months and a bundle credit from Century Link. In addition, Century Link agreed to give me a $20 credit on my phone bill to cover the Direct TV installation charge.
The Direct TV rates are the same that they offer on their website except that Century Link gives you the $5 monthly bundle credit.
