Default Dehumidifier hookup???

Bought a Honeywell H46c 1166 model dehumidstat. Instructions aren't very clear how to hookup to my thermostat (standard builder one). Has a black and a red wire coming out of unit, don't know which wires to connect to on the thermostat??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Two ways or wiring with existing Tstat. Parallel or Series. Parallel either device can start/stop the AC system regardless if one is open. Series means both devices are wired in same circuit. Both Tstat and De-humidistat have to close for AC to function. I prefer the latter because it is possible during certain conditions the tstat is not calling but the de humidistat keeps the system.
Your thermostat shd have the following terminals and 18 gauge colored wires to match respective terminal
Red 24 vac
C Common to 24 vac only used if Tstat is digital with clock/backlight or not needed if digital stat is battery powered.. Do not recommend battery powered stats if you are a snowbird
Yellow AC system
Green Indoor fan
White Heat
above based upon single stage cooling and heating
Heat pumps will additional contact for reversing valve.

Shut off line voltage service switch to indoor furnace and transformer.
Series wiring, disconnect wires Y and G from Tstat and save. Connect two new wires from Y and G directly to Red wire on De-stat. Then install new wire connecting de-stat Black wire back to original Y and G going to your furnace control board.
W, R and C (color can vary on common wire) stay as is. On a call for heat the furnace board will bring on the inside fan too. this assumes the installing HVAC contractor wired the system properly. You can check inside your furnace and thermostat. Good luck
