Default Direct tv and internet question

When we move in on 12/14 we intend to use Direct TV. What companies are available to use for high speed internet that are not part of some phone, TV and internet package combined? Also if you have used them are you satisified?
Thanks

We moved here in mid-July. We got Comcast for internet and haven't had one minute of trouble with them (so far). No down time at all. We have our computer hooked to our LCD TV and watch Hulu and Netflix with no problems.

Their internet and cable and phone service can be used altogether if desired. We just have internet and limited basic cable. They give you the option of internet alone if that is all you want. I think they charge $10 less if you get it with at least basic cable.

We also provided our own cable modem. Motorola SBG900, I think it is. It works great with Comcast and saves the monthly rental for theirs.

We just moved in 9 days ago and we just had Direct TV installed. Love it.

We have Comcast for our internet only.

If you only want basic cable, Comcast is $56 per month for limited basic and internet. You can usually get a better deal for the first 6 months.

I don't know about any others. I personally detest DSL. Had it once, had all kinds of trouble with it, and the speed is not that great. This was in Georgia, so I can't say that DSL is bad here in Florida, only that I am gun shy about it. Maybe some others can give their opinions.

I think were getting the middle of the road for $40. Had it a week or so and it is fine for my purposes. I will try to get more stats for you.

There is a web site that measures you upload and download. Anybody know where it is?

I just ran a test and was not impressed, but I did not purchase the best package, either.

My download result was 1.46 Mb/s

My upload was .36 Mb/s

I might upgrade later but took this package to get started.

Here is a link to test:

Ajack, Thanks for the link. I think I have the high speed Comcast. My download was 18.5 Mbps and upload was 2.67 Mbps.

Your welcome. Your stats are similar to the ones I had up in Massachusetts. I will keep mine for awhile and maybe upgrade later. How much $$$ is our internet?

That must be DSL. Even the slowest Comcast should be nowhere near that.

My test was 32.3 and 9.73. (Comcast highest speed)

Cool

Make sure to run several tests with speedtest.net to several different locations. You can get bad results if the server you are accessing is slow.

Just from experience....

Also speed test will vary greatly on time of day you run it. Early AM is the best to show highest speed. Late afternoon, early evening will show slowest speeds. It depends on the number of people on the internet at those times.
