I had Tim Miller epoxy our garage floor and he did a great job. The garage floor is more slippery when wet especially barefoot, I always wear shoes now. We told him to go light with the non skid material when he applied it and that was our mistake.

How about Home Depot, $100 and a roller and call it done.
Hard to believe someone can't paint a floor. |

Does a new home/garage need to be etched or cleaned first? Not a handyman, thanks. |

The reason for sealing / epoxy a garage floor, at least in our case is simple. Un unsealed or coated garage floor tracks in dirt that gets on carpeting. We have a throw rug leading from the garage and after you wipe your feet on it it becomes dirty in a few days. We also have a rug in the garage to wipe your feet prior to entering the house but the rug inside the house will still find a lot of dirty.

Our garage floor was epoxy painted in May 2013 by Terry Boese of Tera Seal Painting Co.- 362-216-9800. He used RustOleum paint. Stated that the previous paint that he had used peeled! We were asked to let it dry for 2 weeks before putting anything (like a car or golf cart) on it. It is now 8 months since and there is no peeling! So far, we are happy with Terry's work. PS. He acid washed and rinsed the garage floor before painting - with chip finish.

Yes the floor must be cleaned or etched before you put the epoxy down. They do sell the kits in Home Depot or Lowes. The kits should contain colored chips which are added to the epoxy as it is being rolled on. They make it a bit less slippery. One thing, just be careful when coming into the garage with wet feet. I slipped two times.
