Furniture shopping
Honey and I are frantically packing boxes and leaving in just 2 days for our new home in TV. We'll be arriving on Friday the 31st and want to spend some time scouting out the local furniture stores before our closing on Monday. So any suggestions? Where are your favorite places to shop??????

All the TV veterans make fun of Southern Lifestyles because it is part of The Developer's huge conglomerate.
But we all admit their selection and prices are pretty good. As a resident I think you still get a 10% discount, so that's supposed to make you feel better. The problem is if you want new stuff conveniently and quick they are hard to beat. Relatives of ours with very good taste have almost fully furnished their new designer home in two quick trips in May and September by buying beautiful things at a fraction of the new price at Bargains and Treasures on Country Rd in Oxford. If you have patience, that place and the moving sales in TV are a real moneysaver. Good luck! |

We were referred to Kane's Furniture in Ocala, the sales person was Ray Wells...he was great and he was able to get our bed delivered the next day.

Many TV folk like White's Furniture on 441 about four miles North of TV on East side of road.
Southern Living is very nice. That said, we were in their SS store last week to see if they had a Broyhill love seat we were looking at from JC Penney. They didn't have it in stock and could order it from Broyhill for $1299. JC Penney had it on sale for $699. The saleswoman, who said she had worked for Southern Living for over 15 years, said that the reason for the price difference was that JC Penney carried a very limited inventory and sold nationwide and was able to get special pricing for the large quantity of sales on limited items. So, we will buy that item from JC Penney in California for delivery in TV at no additional delivery cost. .

Furniture Country
We bought a few necessary pieces from Furniture Country....large, modern retail store in Leesburg...on Rt 441 near airport in Leesburg. Prices are decent, big selection, good sales...but generally they have to order and you wait for delivery.
They also have a closeout and scratch and dent warehouse on Rt 44, just east of 301. We found one piece there too.

I found a website for Badcock Furniture in Ocala. Anybody? What do you know? Thanks for your suggestions so far. I'm writing this all down. Please hurry as Honey will disconnect me by the end of the day. Then I'll be like the astronauts when they go around the back of the moon. Remember watching television and everybody holding their breath til they could communicate again?

Don't go to Badcock. I bought a sofa and loveseat last year in September. Salesperson told me it was ultrasuede and could be cleaned with soap and water. I have a very old dog (19 years) and needless to say, after 1 month, the couch needed cleaning. I could not get it cleaned, so I called Demmings who had done a great job for us before. Mr. Demming said it was a cheap imitation and could not be cleaned. Also the cushions turned out to be stuffed with cardboard. Both pieces were totally useable within 9 months. We had Badcock out twice in that time to fix the cushions because the outside layer of cloth kept sliding off the cardboard cushions. The guy who fixed the couch the second time said he would never buy from Badcock, and he worked there.

Also worth a drive to Leesburg to check out Babette's furniture. Across from the airport on 441. Large selection of quality furniture.
We bought a piece there Friday. I searched the internet for the same piece and the best price I could find was $1,550. They had it on sale for $960 with $40 for delivery to TV. There normal price was $1,199. 20% off sale good through the end of the month. |

Amen on Babbette's
We scoured the area for quality but affordable furniture and no one could beat Babbette's prices. Their collection is not Thomasville (of old) quality, but certainly on a par with Southern Living. To top it off, we took advantage of their anniversary sale and got 20% off.
Downside is most items have to be ordered..4-8 weeks. That's how they pass on savings..little overhead or big warehouse. White's is more expensive, has much of the same lines, has been in business a while and can deliver most items in days. |
