Default Garage Door Screen

We've decided to have screens installed at our garage door and would appreciate input on who does a good job at a reasonable cost. Also any input on what to watch out for. Which are better - sliders or those that retract on the door track?

We are just moving from a home that has sliders to a home that does not have a garage screen. When we have a screen installed on our new home, we will have the sliders installed. Easier to get in and out of, less to go wrong or "off track".

I do not know anyone that installs, so hopefully you will receive some suggestions form "those in the know".

Default Retractable

We have the retractable screen and we love it! We have 2 remotes and when one of us is gone, we don't have to get out and move the screen(s) over to get into the garage. There is also a switch next to the regular garage door switch and a lockout switch so that the screen cannot be raised using the outdoor switch pad (doesn't affect the remote). The only problem we have had is when my husband (thank goodness it was him!) backed into it twice with the golf cart. The screen held, but the frame had to be repaired.....about $70 to repair. The second time, my neighbor came over and fixed it while the company (Michele's Screens out of Ocala) talked him through how to do it. This same neighbor has the sliders and he backed into his. It is going to cost him a fortune to fix (one quote was $500). He finally found someone but I don't know for how much and I notice that it still is not fixed after about a week.

We also love our retractable garage screen. Soooo much more convenient than the sliders. But there are two kinds: the expensive ones which come down in sections like a standard garage door and integrate both into the same track, and the more reasonable ones which are a roll-up screen (think standard window shade), on a separate track from the garage door. After lots of research we opted for the roll-up. Amazingly enough, I found one, slightly used, here in TV. The Solar Guys sell and install them and they were willing to help me install mine even though I did not buy it from them. The Solar Guys are terrific. One more thing - get a screen which is white. Seeing out is the same as a dark screen, but you cannot see in. And as we bop around in our golf carts we see those white screens much sooner!
