Default GE fridge filter

Where can I buy the replacement water filters for my fridge? I went to Walmart and I could not find them. Perhaps, I looked in the wrong department. Thanks

Around here, Lowe's has a large selection of filters. Probably the same in most of their stores.

Is the filter on a water dispenser or an ice maker? (Maybe I need to R&R one too.)

The replacement filter for my refrigerator was $50 and it was recommended to be changed every 3 months. If my math is correct that is $200 a year. I opted to remove my filter and install a whole house water filter. The whole house water filter is less than $6 and still only needs to be changed every 3 months. The ice in my refrigerator is just fine and my whole house filter has paid for itself already. No more need to buy ice and water.

I ordered my filters from Amazon.com and with free shipping it turned out to be about $31 each. I ordered three. My change-out calls for every 6 months. You can find replacements that are not Original Equipment for a little cheaper. Brita even makes a filter for it. I stuck with the OEM (GE).

Instead of a whole house filter I am also considering a filter just for the cold water side of the facet in the kitchen. They are VERY reasonably priced and the cartridges are as low as $12 for two on sale.
