Default GE microwave died

Less than 2 years old GE profile above stove microwave died this AM. The light comes on fan starts but no revolving tray or heat. Did the basic trouble shoooting with no luck. Read numerous horror stories on the web about GE products. Question is has anyone had this happen? If so what did they do? How much did it cost and did it really fix the problem or just reoccur down the road. I am really not interested in throwing good money after bad. Who did you use to get it fixed? Thanks Quill

Maybe this is a silly comment by me but, I wonder if TV was having problems with GE products and that's why they changed to Whirlpool???

My Whirlpool microwave was DOA... Just moved in 4 nights ago! It doesn't appear to be just a GE problem.

Not silly at all. I had to have my air conditioner fixed when it was 11 months old. If I have to buy a new appliance I will never buy GE.

Probably has more to do with China made products. It seems the lifespan isn't what it used to be. So far, A/C fan motor, and garbage disposal, and dishwasher extended wash cyclel

Default G.E.

Call the GE number in your appliance manual and they will send someone out. You will have to pay for the labor only.

It is no longer a bad idea to buy the extended warranty when purchasing new appliances. We recently had one refrigerator fail at 13 months. One of my kids had a similar problem with two successive high end fridges from two different manufacturers.

Default GE Stinks

We have replaced a refrigerator and microwave, both GE. Both were noisy and i replaced them with LG appliances. The Mirowave (over the stove with rangehood features) was easy to replace. I bought one online and put it in myself.

Not sure if you read my post about GE microwave....Repairman told me that my microwave went out because I had it mounted over the stove and that I wasn't supposed to use the stove burners on the side the microwave electronics were on...huh?????? I obviously misunderstood the "over the stove microwave" concept...all my fault...btw..did I tell you I hate GE??

Trish....My microwave is located over my gas stove which really heats up and its 5 years old. GEProfile is suppose to be their top of the line but fact is GE really didn't want to stay in appliance business. Appliances are suppose to last at least ten years???????????? My ice maker on my GE refrig went in less than two years.

I suspect the manufacturing of appliances are being farmed out

GE was one of the best appliance manufacturers but no more. The last GE appliances I bought have all been junk. Never again with GE. I have had better luck with Whirlpool but am leaning toward Samsung/LG/Bosch. Check out this link for over the range microwave ratings:

GE is not alone in manufacturing junk. I had a hotpoint over the range microwave that lasted 3 years. Took it out and installed a highly rated Maytag and it lasted 2 years before going out last week. I called a friend who sells appliances and asked him what to do...he said look for a fuse, which could be the problem. If that doesn't do it you may as well buy a new one, they are not worth trying to fix! What really burns me is I just gave away a perfectly good counter microwave two weeks ago.rant-rave:

consider yourself lucky. our GE microwave turned on by itself when we were not home. result: fire in the kitchen, whole house had to be redone, including furniture, air ducts, electrical outlets, all appliances, etc. Read on GE website, not an uncommon. we replaced with everything other than GE

Our's stopped working about a year after we moved in. Out of warranty. Had a repair guy come and he said it was cheaper to get a new one than repair it. Lowes had a Maytag and it was installed a few days later. Fit in fine and was low enough to cover the unpainted portion of the wall behind the unit. There is a coupon in the paper that gives you a free service call 1 time. Frederick appliance repair I think. Lowes has a web page to get an idea of cost for new.

Default GE Appliances

We repaired GE frig 3 times then bought a different brand; repaired GE microwave (wouldn't heat) once in July 09, $200, and just went out again this week - we'll be buying a different brand now (thanks for the link). GE appliances are junk. I will never buy GE - and agree that we are almost forced to keep extended warranties because of cheaply made items and major PARTS that don't last. We bought house new in 04 - wouldn't have thought we'd replace frig, micro, air cond unit, repaired washer & hot water heater, all before 10 years !
