I had it for my parents while they were living at home. Both have since passed, but they never used the service. Mom didn't mind wearing her pager, but Dad just wouldn't. Prior to getting the service, Mom had a fall and Dad struggled to get her up without calling any one. I figured having Life Alert would make them comfortable. Not sure if it did or not...they only were subscribed for about a year before transferring to full time nursing home care.

One thing you need to know is that when you sign up for Life Alert, canceling isn't easy. Both parents needed to be moved to a nursing home so we were allowed to cancel.

Check on all the particulars before subscribing.

Thanks for the info. My parents live in the Villages and I live in PA. I am in the security business but know little about the Life Alert Systems. I am really looking for a local company that offers this service. From what I have read, Life alert mails you the equipment and you install it yourself. I was able to find a company in Clermont that seems to offer the same service, reasonable price, and local customer service. They also install the equipment at no charge. They also have been monitoring these systems for 70 years and have a + rating with the BBB.
Thanks for the help any additional information would be helpful.

I was living in CA and my parents were living in MA. I ordered it and it was delivered to someone who came to their house and installed the equipment. I was visiting them when it arrived.

I thought there were some local companies in our area that offered the same type of service, but I don't know the names or their reputations. Also, not sure what county your parents live in. If I find out any more info, I'll let you know, but it sounds like you've got this covered pretty well.

You're a good son.

Thanks again, I have decided to go with Smith & Wesson Security Services in Clermont. I spoke with them and I have a good feeling about them. I checked the BBB and found nothing. When I searched them I found nothing but good reviews.
