Default Mac Computers

Does anyone know where I can buy a MAC computer locally to the Villages?

There are a few Apple stores in Orlando ... including the Millenia mall. Locally, 'Best Buy' may have something of interest.

I'd recommend going to an Apple store. There's a great one in the mall next to the airport in Tampa. Just this year Apple is limiting their customer service perks if you buy a Mac at a competing store. You might pay just a little less elsewhere but IMHO the extra service is worth it.

Default Apple store

The closest Apple stores (2) are in Orlando: the Florida Mall at 8001 South Orange Blossom Trail Orlando, FL 32809 (407) 858-1310 and Millenia Mall at 4200 Conroy Rd. Orlando, FL 32839 (407) 352-5551

If you know what you want just buy online at the Apple online store as free shipping applies to purchases over $50.

Mitch beat me to it.
Just buy one online. Apple has one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings of any company. I always buy during the educational back to school deal to get the free ipod. The day after Thanksgiving they always have a one day deal, even online.

You Villagers are lucky to have your own Mac user group.....I'm sure they could help you.

I switched around 9 years ago and never looked back. My family has a G4 imac, 2 12" powerbooks and I just bought a new 13" macbookPro.

I would also say buy at Apple Store or online. The Best Buy in Lady Lake across from Home Depot does sell Apple also. I know they have one of the IMAC on display. go there and check it out.

You have GREAT timing.

TODAY, Apple just announced brand new macbooks with a 7 hour battery life, etc, and also a new magic mouse wireless mouse that is light years ahead of anything else.

The biggest news is the brand new imacs. They are just jaw dropping stunning.

New macs come out 1-2 times a year, and it is best to buy right after a new refresh. Today they announced a massive refresh.......they're gorgeous.

Good time to buy. That being said, the day after Thanksgiving will also be a good day to buy for those who want to save a bit more.

You can check it out on apples website if you like.

Here is the link for the new iMac.

I just plunked down my money online for the 27" iMac with 8g of memory, 1T hard drive and 3.06 gHz processor. The price with tax is less than the old 24" iMac with the same processor and hard drive, but only 4g of memory, on MacConnection.

My plan was to wait for this announcement, then pick up the old 24" iMac at a discount. However, the new iMac just blew that plan out of the water.

Congrats! That will be a thing of beauty.
Sadly, I'm still madly in love with my G4 imac lamp style. I love how the screen moves side by side and up and down..it still wows folks who are new to macs...but FWIW, I had a hard time giving up my 12" powerbook for this new macbook Pro......but i'm glad I did.

Funny, you never hear of a windoze guy still loving his 9 year old desktop

I may like to visit your Mac users group this next month when we are down there. I was told I could even though i'm a non-villager because they pay to use the room. Do you perhaps know when and where that is?

Thanks, Frank

I got impatient, and also concerned that the 27" would be too big for my needs. So I canceled the online order and went to the Apple Store in Altamont Springs yesterday.

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that there were no new iMacs on display. Found the clerk I had an appointment with and he explained that they hadn't come in yet, but they were expecting deliveries any minute.

He went in back to check again and came back to tell me that the truck just pulled up but they didn't know what was on it. A few minutes later he came back with a 21.5" iMac. I was the first one to get a new iMac at that store.

Set up and installed now. Transferred easily from my MacBook. It is a thing of beauty. The new mouse takes a few minutes to get used to. It is like no mouse you have ever used before. No buttons, just a touch sensitive surface.

The screen is beautiful. I am glad that I got the smaller screen. I am using it on a partner desk and the larger screen would have completely blocked my view out the window.

Congrats!!
I bet it is awesome.

Let us know what you think of Snow Leopard. I have it, but have not installed it yet on my macbookPro. I can't wait to try out that mouse.

Enjoy!! Frank

I installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook as soon as the first update came out. I only had problems with one program (can't even remember which one), and it was easily fixed with an update from the author.

There was a noticeable improvement in performance, particular at system start up. Otherwise, I really didn't notice that much difference. I just wanted the MacBook to have the same OS as the iMac before I did the migration.
