Default new comcast subscribers beware

Have not read this in any of the posts about getting service, so I bring it up now. If you are getting a new house, just built, then plan ahead with comcast. We close next week and called, today thinking that is plenty of time for an appointment to be made. Not so, we have to wait 7 to 10 days for the local office to input our address into the system, then we can call back and get an appointment for hookup. We have a space shuttle orbiting the earth right now but it takes comcast 7/10 days to input an address. I hate media monopolies. They can not even tell me how many channels we will getting. Still searching for the answer on telephone service. Do any of you just use a cell phone and what about having 911 with only a cell?

quil - try contacting 'Clearlink' Comunications.. they are a 'Villages' installation service down on 1100 Main st (352 751 3547) .... they contacted me as soon as I closed but I had decided to go Directv.. they sounded like they could have installed my cable, etc 'real soon'... they may have an issue with digital phone though which if I read your note looks like your interested in.

Thanks for the info, I will call them. Not interested in digital phone. Wondered if people just use there cell phones as their primary home phone rather than having a land line. And if you use a cell phone, do you have 911 service in TV. Some places 911 does not work or goes somewhere else which slows down emergency response

I can see where we will be in our new to us home for days before being hooked up to Comcast. As I mentioned in another post, we can not sign up for Comcast Cable, and make an appointment until after the people living in the home we are buying have closed their account. So we still have to wait several days for an appointment after our closing date. Pushing me toward Directv.

At times, it does seem that Comcast is not trying to work with customers.

I will give ClearLink a call. Thanks for the number, ripwho.

quill, presently we are between two homes while we wait for my wife to get her retirement date. With that said, we only use a cell phone at TV now and will continue to use only a cell until we are there perm. So far no problems, as far as 911, just tell them your address and you will be fine, of course unless you are unable to speak, that would be the only draw back.

If you are a part timer in TV, alot of people simply use their cell phone for local and long distance. However as a permanent resident you will start to feel guilty and realize that other permanent residents are not calling you (for social engagements or golf dates) because the call across the street is long distance from their house phone. Even if you have Majic Jack in your house with a 352 area code, calls to your 352 Majic jack number are long distance. Most permanent residents have Embarq, while some use Comcast, but then use their cell phone for long distance calling.

Fortunately I have not needed to use 911 and have no personal experience, but they say 911 from cell phones have much improved in locating the call quickly..... but then the rec centers tell people if an emergency arises and you need to call 911 you should call from the rec center itself using the land line to make certain the correct location is identified quickly adn confirmed electronically.

Default Comcast = Come-last

My friend got the same story from Comcast. "Wait a few days, call back and then we'll try to squeeze you in about a week or two". His answer: "Never mind I'll go with the ugly satellite dish, if that's the type of service you offer here in Florida."

Comcast came out the next day!!!!

That's not unusual.

I had a problem with my Dish Network setup here in New Hampshire. After a service call was cancelled by them because of weather (it was this past winter), they called me to reschedule. They told me that, due to fallout from the storms we'd had, that they couldn't get someone out to my house for another 11 days.

I told them I was sure that DirecTV would have someone at my house in 2 days. They said they'd call me back. 10 minutes later, they called back saying they'd "found" an installer who "just had a cancellation" and would be at my house in less than 48 hours..

Such good fortune on my part, don't you think? *Imagine* the coincidence!

Did I mention that I'd been a premium customer for 9 years?

Default Cable

Is Embarq a dish system only? I have Embarq computer and phone now. I need to add tv. I would like to have the Villages tv station but I don't require it. Should I just have Embarq put in the tv reception or make a switch on everything?

We are stuck with a LAN line using Century-Tel and The Dish. Comcast didn't offer VOIP when we moved in back in 2008. But to get around long distance fees we use the cell phone or Google Voice. Google Voice is cool. Using your computer it places the call to the phone of your choice. You pick out the phone number area code and first 3 digits. When your phone rings pick it up and it connects avoiding long distance call fees. We also use it to forward our calls from up North to our phone in The Villages. All this to save $15 a month. I guess I just don't care for the phone company and the monopoly they held over us for all of those years. We use VOIP up north. Why not just the cell phone? Crappy reception in Hadley. It is more than the stucco walls.

Villages TV is only on Comast. Embarq (now called Century Tel) has a package deal with The Dish. I think it was a savings of $5 a month. Century Tel proves our phone, Internet DSL-slow, and Dish TV. Everything is on 1 bill.

Internet DSL comes in different flavors. For an additional cost you can upgrade your DSL to a higher speed. Check the website. I am Comcast High speed internet but I did the research on Embarq DSL before I decided not to switch.

Default Direct tv is the best

Direct tv is superior to all others by a mile.
